Does a mammal which lay eggs (eg Platypus) also suckles its young?

My DS thinks only mammals which give birth to young alive suckle its young.

      What is your take?

According to this website, yes. http://www.australianfauna.com/platypus.php

\"When a young platypus is born, they feed from milk from the mother. The mother secretes this milk from large glands under the skin, the young platypus feed from this milk which ends up on the mothers fur.\"

Yup, that’s why we said mammals feed their young with milk.

All mammals suckle their young. In fact, they are named mammals after the mammary glands which are found in all female mammals. The function of the mammary glands is to produce milk for the mammals' offspring.

            Hope this helps. πŸ˜„

              Good morning,

I have a question which I think I had read from here in this long thread. But I need your help again, as I cannot find it.

              The question shows 2 pictures.
Same components: soil in container, green beans on the soil.
Variable components : set up A has no water in soil and is left near a window.
set up B has wet soil and left in fridge.

Question is why both set up will not germinate.

I know how to answer for set up A but how do you explain for set up B?

              Thank you very much.

For germination to occur, you need warmth, air and water [remember as WAW], these 3 conditions. So for B, warmth is missing, therefore, seeds cannot germinate.

The three conditions necessary for germination are water, oxygen and warmth.

Water is necessary for a few reasons. At the primary level, the main thing they need to know is that water is needed to enable the breaking of the seed coat.

Oxygen is needed in order for respiration in the seed to occur. Without respiration, the seed would not have the required energy to carry out any processes it needs to.

Warmth is needed as the temperature affects growth rate, to put it simply. So in this case, the temperature in the fridge was too low. So the seed will not germinate.

                  Hope this helps. πŸ˜„

Question*: \"Some seeds are placed in 2 similar pots as shown. After a few days, the seeds in pot A germinated but those in pot B did not. Suggest a reason why\". (Picture shows seeds in both pots with moist cotton, except one has grown and one hasn't.)

The model answer is \"The seeds in container B have been cooked\". πŸ˜“

Kiddo answered, \"Container B was left in a cold place while Container A was left in a warm place.\" Is this answer acceptable?

                      *I have re-phrased the question.

It's a little tricky to say without the diagram itself, but I'm guessing both pots were drawn next to each other. In that case both pots would have been at the same location and so variables such as temperature and the presence of oxygen would have been kept the same for both pots. Then unfortunately your child's answer would not be accepted.

                        Hope this helps. πŸ˜„
