DD 259+2. Still undecided between St Nicks IP vs MGS IB. We recce schools distances yesterday by taking MRT/buses. St Nicks has a Mayflower MRT opening soon which makes it easier to transfer 2 mrt lines (short distance) and we are staying around vicinity of Lor Chuan/Braddell. MGS also takes 2 mrt lines to get. I am more in favour of St nicks due to closer proximity but DD seems more interested in MGS. To be honest, i think getting to MGS in BT is a hassle should I need to fetch her (car) on some days. Trying not to force a decision on DD but it seems rather logical to choose St nicks. Any thots from anyone?

What is the reason for her being more interested in mgs? Is she more interested in mgs because of its IB or something else (like I really loved their library and swimming pool)?

We did ask her, coz she heard project based learning and might have gotten the impression not as stressful as A levels

Something that is easy for others may not be easy for her. Ask her to choose based on her interest, is she someone who likes to do projects? Then she can go MGS, but that should not be the only consideration. She must like the environment, the CCA, do ask more about the subject combinations offered at MGS too. Hope this helps!

Useful if u let us know ur child's gender.

          My boy

Ngee Ann seems best choice, and if willing to travel farther can consider maris Stella, zhonghua, Temasek, Tanjong Katong, Xin min.[/quote]Thank you! High/SAP schools are out of option. But rest I could give it a try.

Crescent Girls Secondary school will catch your DD1, at 248.

            National Junior College :
being an IP school, not possible to fall beneath 250 to 248, so drastic

            SCGS (O-level) :
never dropped below 250, based on past years' track record

            Cedar (O-level) :
last year 249, this year 2020 likely to increase, shoot past 250 border

Glad to hear crescents will catch her. Her only preference is between cedar and crescents.

Being a pessimist, i would use the 6th choice as a super safety net, perhaps put chij st theresa, TKGS or PLMGS.

If willing to travel a bit, can consider St Gabriel (225). Bedok View (218) might be the most logical choice?

Well I guess project based can also be stressful if you happen to get not so good groupmates. While Project Work in JC1-A level is also group work, I guess bulk of A level is just yourself. Not very sure whether it is individual or group for the 2 IB years. I only know 4 girls in MGS IP, while 1 has transferred out, the other 3 are very happy in mgs.

Last time when I went to mgs open house, the students were telling me about having to buy a Chromebook, I dont know if they still use that for school now. But the students were quick to point out that a Chromebook is a lot cheaper than a Macbook. And when I asked another group of students about what they like most about the IP curriculum, they said the symposium with ACSI boys. šŸ˜‚ then they said no lah no lah!

                    And this is also impt.

A levels has short sharp bursts of stress, but IB seems to have more constant stress (can't say whether lower intensity or not) because of continual assessment. My daughter's friends who did IB seemed to be constantly having deadlines looming, and a lot of stuff would count towards the final grade. Of course, there is personality - my daughter is generally the not-too-stressed kind, and only really got slightly more stressed twice a year (exam time).
