      Hi,

With a score of 251, what would be the best option for IP? I plan to keep below preferences for my kid

Would like to know if St. Joseph’s or Temasek is better for IP?

      Victoria School (252 - 275)
      St. Joseph’s Institution (Secondary) (251 - 263)
      Temasek Junior College (Secondary) ( 250 - 264 )

Also considering O-level for next 3 options, which one is best amongst below? Is ACS Barker preferred over St.Josephs and other schools?

      Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) ( 246 - 251 )
      St. Joseph’s Institution (Secondary) ( 246 - 255)
      St. Andrew’s Secondary School ( 247 - 249)
      Anderson Secondary School (245 - 260)
251 is a IP-borderline case, u should try but be mentally prepared for the unexpected.
Temasek and Victoria are A-level based IP whereas SJI is IB-based. U should discuss with ur son about A-level versus IB because they are quite different.
For the O level track, if academics is a priority, go for SJI and Anderson.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Yes, I got my son prepared for O level track as well and he prefers Victoria ( 248 - 262 ) over IP in other schools.
I tried checking feedback on Temasek Junior College (Secondary) but could not find much information. He is keen to join Victoria. But wondering he should choose Temasek Junior College(IP) over Victoria(O level ) if he misses Victoria IP considering academics/career perspective(this one is relative though 🙂 )

        Appreciate your response.

You need to talk to your son n understand why he seems so keen on Victoria. You the parent seem to prefer IP and u need to discuss your reasons with him n convince him. Some kids need the O levels to kick them into action, some don’t, n u should know your child best.

233 is definitely also not within Top 10 %

            Next question
            Did your daughter
( score A * in her Standard Chinese or score minimum at least a merit in Psle Higher Chinese) ?

Pose the same qn, to this 233-girl
There should be some differences, between your daughter and this 233-girl

**Sad** She neither scored A* CL nor merit for HCL.
My guess is for the 233 girl, she scored an A* for her CL.

            Don't be sad

If you really want to do Sec 1 HCL, but Don't qualify because MOE didnt give that eligibility HCL letter, there are a few ways to go around it

            1) join those SAP schools that overide MOE HCL letter

            Example

Join SAP schools like Chung Cheng High (Main), because their Chinese Department has overiden the MOE letter, enabling ALL Sec 1 students to take Higher Chinese.

Even if students never received MOE letter, never mind. All can take Higher Chinese from Sec 1 onwards, once joined CCH (Main)

            Note
I mentioned join CCH (Main), never said join CCH (Yishun), because Yishun is not a SAP school. CCH (Yishun) branch, their Chinese Department never override Moe HCL letter.

            2) if your girl join other schools , next year Y2021 Sec 1, continue to take external tuition in Higher Chinese outside, try to reach your targeted objective. That is

            - by end of Sec 1,
try to score minimum grade A1 (75 marks & above) in your Standard Chinese (bu-hua)

            - by end of Sec 1,
try to achieve minimum grade A (comprising either A1 or A2) in your Sec 1 both (Maths & Science) & minimum a B3 in your English language.

            - Then, after Sec 1 year-end exam over, approach your Chinese HOD personally & appeal to let your daughter take HCL, starting from Sec 2 onwards.

The reason why, your other Sec 1 subjects (Eng, Maths, Science) must also be strong, not just your bu-hua stand alone one single Chinese subject strong only, is because for Secondary HCL, you need to spend time reading up zuowen (yi lun wen, ji lu wen, qing jing zuowen, debate argumentative type of zuowen), read up newspaper cut articles, listen to Chinese radio news current affair, etc. Otherwise, if u don't spend time reading, when zuowen ask you to comment and give your view or opinion whether you agree or u dont agree with the zuowen topic, u got no \"meat\", no substance to support your \"argumentative\" essay, which come in by Sec 2 AFTER end of Semester 1[/quote]Thanks for the advice. Indeed we are applying to CCHM. DD wants to continue taking HCL and we live nearby too.

We have submitted our S1 last night. First 3 choices are her dream schools where the COP are 1-5 higher than hers.

            Fourth is CCHM.

Fifth & sixth are 10 points below her T-score as safety net.

Thank you for your time and feedbacks. Really appreciate it.

Hi Experts here, someone mentioned that MOE/schools would kind of refer to the order of listing as reference should child request for transfer sometime down the road of 4 years due to whatever reasons, is this true?

I'm trying to be as realistic as possible.... my child had done well for this ONE time assessment. It could be just a fluke due to some last minute booster classes he had attended resulting in induced/inflated result, thought he's quite hard working.  Well, there is a possibility that he cmi in a challenging environment as he came from a holistic neighborhood school.

Hehehe... I may be worrying too much but would greatly greatly greatly appreciate adv from some experts here🙏🏻

Ps: DC tscore 270+2, putting HCI as 1st choice

Hi, my girl's score is 239, we are looking at TKGS or PLMGS as first choice. Both COP are 237 (plmgs non affiliation). Any advice or comments about the 2 schools? Thanks!
I would go with TKGS. More express classes.

Me too. Unless due to location proximity, TKGS is my preferred choice too. Personally, I will not select those schools with affiliation and tscore ranging from 190+ to 200+. I prefer students of similar capability to be grouped together.

                        :?
What’s with the question marks? If you already prefer Kranji after Swiss Cottage, that should be 2nd after Swiss Cottage. No need to engineer an in-between choice if you don’t want to.

                        My suggestion:
                        1) Swiss cottage 242 (-4)
                        2) Kranji 234 (4)

                        5) Raffles Girls School
                        6) Nanyang Girls High
