Crescent Girls School VS SCGS

Personally, I feel that you should decide if you prefer IP or O level before the choice of school.

If she can cycle to CGS, she might be able to cycle to the upcoming Great World station on the Thomson line. From there, it is only 4 stops to SCGS at Stevens. Euonia JC, where she'd end up in if she goes to SCGS, is a further 4 stops. Great World station should open by early Sec 2.
Hi, I would like to ask about your opinion on these schools: SCGS (Ip, not O Level) and CGS. Both are close to home (though my child can cycle to CGS). With a T-score of 254, which do you think I should choose?
Thank you!
(CGS is Crescent Girls school)
P.S. Thanks for your reply to my post in the MGS thread. -

Cycle to school sounds dangerous to me. There is a newly built MRT (Steven station) entrance/exit right next to SCGS! Crescent is not far from SCGS.

If I were you, with 254, I will definitely pick IP for my daughter, be it SCGS IP or other IP schools my kid qualifies. A math tutor told me, IP yr 4 and O level sec 4 students cannot be put in the same class for A-maths tuition because IP pace is much faster than O level. If your daughter qualifies for IP, you should stretch her potential.
I ask my DD1, if you were to choose again, you would want O level or IP track. Her answer is “IP”, because she wants to skip O level exam. Now we just focus on attacking A levels.
Hey, SCGS girls are confident and articulate, ok!
EJC maybe new but it has caught up so fast that the latest cut-off point for Science and Arts stream are on par with NJC and VJC.
Oh btw, the O level track in SCGS is also very good!
Even though SCGS takes in affiliated girls with lower tscore, the school produces stellar O level results. End of sec 2 in SCGS, top performing girls can apply to switch track to IP. -

Crescent Girls School is located on a park connector/cycling path connecting Queenstown through to CBD, so one can cycle without ever getting on a road (other than a couple of traffic crossings). So pretty safe, really. At least no more dangerous than walking on the sidewalks/pavements.
Cycle to school sounds dangerous to me.
My kids' primary school is also located along a park connector and I notice a small number of kids who cycle in. We live too close to bother with cycling. Walking is faster. -
Personally I would pick an IP program if my child qualifies for it. Skipping the O levels is too alluring for me. However it is important to know what your child’s interest are... humanities? Go to scgs.
Crescent has a FutureSchools program you can check it out.. If you she is more keen on computing coding or even math and sci.. this school might be a better fit for her.

It also depends on
1) if A levels is definitely where she is headed
2) while skipping O’s is definitely a plus if you end up doing A’s , there are also other options after Os that are not A’s.
3) I feel there is a diversity element that is lacking in SCGS which you will find in CGS. -
Not here to take sides IP or O levels, SCGS or CGS.
Think parents got to consider, is my child suited to do IP.
Most parents and students don’t consider that, because currently, IP is for those with better results, and O levels seems to be lower tier since it’s for those who can’t qualify for IP.
However, O levels is not the perceived dumping ground. Many students have aced O levels and surpassed the IP students in IPJCs for A levels.
Also there are many IP students who don’t even do well enough to qualify to take 4H2 in JC, or had to drop to 3H2 after Yr 5.
Hiya … cycling to school not dangerous if staying near sch. Walk to sch also can be dangerous. Driven to sch also dangerous. -

I agree, I was almost horrified and worried when i only found out in Year 4 of my daughter school that she needs a min criteria to take 4H2 (MSG2.5) and pre qualifying conditions to take the maths and sciences are min B3 in that subject. One may say this is fair bc the JAE students are straight 6 pointers or so but the IP exam is not quite the O level exam I think.
