    • RE: Crescent Girls School VS SCGS

Cycle to school sounds dangerous to me.
Crescent Girls School is located on a park connector/cycling path connecting Queenstown through to CBD, so one can cycle without ever getting on a road (other than a couple of traffic crossings). So pretty safe, really. At least no more dangerous than walking on the sidewalks/pavements.

My kids' primary school is also located along a park connector and I notice a small number of kids who cycle in. We live too close to bother with cycling. Walking is faster.

Hi, I would like to ask about your opinion on these schools: SCGS (Ip, not O Level) and CGS. Both are close to home (though my child can cycle to CGS). With a T-score of 254, which do you think I should choose?
      Thank you!
      (CGS is Crescent Girls school)
If she can cycle to CGS, she might be able to cycle to the upcoming Great World station on the Thomson line. From there, it is only 4 stops to SCGS at Stevens. Euonia JC, where she'd end up in if she goes to SCGS, is a further 4 stops. Great World station should open by early Sec 2.

P.S. Thanks for your reply to my post in the MGS thread.

    • RE: Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)

We’re also considering MGS IP for our DD. We have a preference for IB over A-levels, and MGS appears to be the only option for girls. Of course, it is a great school for many other reasons.

One concern we have is the school’s emphasis on religion. We are not religious, but neither are we anti-religion. Both of us went to religious schools too, but in neither of our cases was the student body particularly religious. We’re perfectly fine with regular prayers, scriptures on walls, etc, but wonder if religion plays an important role in student life. Are the students themselves primarily from religious families? Would a non-religious student feel left out?

We are particularly interested in hearing from MGS parents who are not religious. Are our concerns misplaced?

      Thanks.

      Hope it's not too late.

Bring along a water bottle and a small bag containing a storybook and a pencil and eraser will do.

School will be dismissed at 9:40am. School bus will depart school at 10am.

No need school uniform. Encouraged to dress in traditional attire.
Thanks. Managed to read it just before school last Wednesday but just got the chance to reply.

Hi all- DD (P1) lost the instruction sheet from school on the CNY party tomorrow. Can someone be kind enough to summarise the key points? Thanks.

Thanks for the updates! At the school bookshop or at Popular bookstores?
At the school. We live nearby so it's more convenient to get them there.

Anyone bought the new P1 chinese textbooks already? The booklist stated to be available by end of the month.

Yes they're in this week. I just got them this morning.

My daughter will be in 1C in 2015.

Does anyone have the list of things that need to be brought on the first day of school? I remember it was mentioned during orientation.

      Hi,

My boy is in 1C too. 🙂

List of things to bring on 1st day as follows:

      1) Stationery (including colour pencils)
      2) Clear plastic file with button in the centre for keeping homework and letters
      3) Water bottle
      4) Story book for silent reading
      5) 1 Exercise book

Student handbook will be distributed by teacher on 1st day.

The above is stated in one of the letter in the blue bag given to us at orientation.

Thanks. Funny, I couldn't find the letter in my blue bag. They must have missed putting it in.

Does anyone have the details of Cantonment School’s results for for Phase 2CS last year? Was there any balloting?

Trying to find a safe school, given we may have only 80-90% chance in our 1st choice school in Phase 2C.

      Thanks.
