Hi Parents am seriously considering Kuo Chuan Presbyterian for my daughter. It would be great if you could share your experiences with the school to understand its culture and environment better especially on how your child’s feelings towards the school and teachers. Do share the pros and cons of the school to have a balance view. Should you be more comfortable you may PM me as well. Thank you so much for your help and looking forward in hearing from you!

Transferred my ward to KCPPS in 2020. Best decision made… even though, strategically, I should have applied for MGS or St Nick’s.
1. Most considerate, professional and kind Admin staff. Especially May. When my girl had fever (Vaccine-related), she made the effort to accompany my girl all the way from school. My girl was in Student Care under YMCA but May still walked with her all the way, even though it wasn’t her responsibility. She even made sure my girl was eating at recess for more than a year by checking in on her now and then. Where do you find great school admin staff like that?
The school I transfered my girl out of made it very ugly during the transfer process and though it is a neighbourhood school, they were very arrogant about the whole process. So it was like I was walking onto "Welcome to Kindness Avenue" when we were filling out the forms at Kuo Chuan. Ms May Ng made coming to Kuo Chuan such a delight.
2. Best Principals. The previous one helped raise the school standards incredibly with a focus on character development. The current one truly cares about the kids and staff. She waves to parents she knows and makes the effort to get to know each pupil. She collected the entire staff to attend my ward’s mother’s wake, despite the fact that my girl was only 1.5 mths old in the school.
3. Great teachers who care about the students. There’s remedials for those falling behind and enrichment for those who are more advanced academically. Probably the same in most schools but really caring teachers. Pastoral care is really, really good at helping students with their feelings, directing thoughts and helping parents understand their kids and vice versa.
Culturally, this is a great holistic environment to develop at your own pace. Not too much homework to killjoy and enough room to stretch and grow. My girl and I have built a relationship with the bookshop ladies who are really helpful to those on financial aid, too. There are no snobbish airs at Kuo Chuan. All are treated the same - with discipline, kindness and grace.
So, if you are looking for a peace of mind without chasing too lofty a dream, this is a great values-added school in the Bishan neighbourhood that serves my girl’s schoolmates from as far as Woodlands, Clementi, Tampines and its vicinity. The neighbourhood, which is clean (without unnecessary naughty kids around, ready to prey on innocent young minds) and within the reach of 2 MRT lines, makes it conducive for a good character-building school. -
Wow. Good that you have such a great experience. Just curious, what did KCPS look at before deciding on the transfer? Her grades in the other school? I’m sure lots of parents would like to know about the transfer process.
