Any idea what are the chances of getting in PHS if AL score is 5 points below cut-off?
A former alumni told me bullying (girls) is rife at PHS. Is that true?
Do they have teachers strong in teaching Math and do the teachers have time for students who need help, including dyslexic kids?

Those who never got feedback… if your kids went here, how was it? Is it s nurturing environment with teachers who are skillful facilitators?

RE: FSBB (Full Subject-Based Banding)
Hi, would anyone know, with TKGS and Crescent going into full SBB, if my child scored AL 19 and we chose to put her in G2 so that she can get into Crescent Girls School, is there an option to select to do so?
Or will these two schools change their Express Cut-Off points and my child might have the potential of being accepted? -
RE: Which girls school is strong in choir?
Then, would any know which have less applicants ?
And which have more effective Math teachers who are able to help weaker kids? -

RE: Schools selection... how to select?
Hi Raya,
Just curious...
Where did your girl get posted to in the end?Raya\" post_id=\"2048035\" time=\"1637798052\" user_id=\"43574:
Hi, my daughter got AL 11(no affiliation) and most of her preferred schools have 11 as cut off and considering the schools offering tamil our choices are:
1) St. Margarets - AL11
2) Crescent Girls School - Al11
3) Paya Lebar Methodist - AL 11
4) Tanjong Katong Girls - AL13
5) CHIJ ST Joseph's - AL13
6) Kuo Chuan Presbytarian = AL13
As choice order matters this year is this list safe. I am aware we may not get in one of the top 3 but want to know if will be get in our 4th choice TKGS .Looking for advice. Thanks in advance. -
RE: Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary
Transferred my ward to KCPPS in 2020. Best decision made… even though, strategically, I should have applied for MGS or St Nick’s.
1. Most considerate, professional and kind Admin staff. Especially May. When my girl had fever (Vaccine-related), she made the effort to accompany my girl all the way from school. My girl was in Student Care under YMCA but May still walked with her all the way, even though it wasn’t her responsibility. She even made sure my girl was eating at recess for more than a year by checking in on her now and then. Where do you find great school admin staff like that?
The school I transfered my girl out of made it very ugly during the transfer process and though it is a neighbourhood school, they were very arrogant about the whole process. So it was like I was walking onto "Welcome to Kindness Avenue" when we were filling out the forms at Kuo Chuan. Ms May Ng made coming to Kuo Chuan such a delight.
2. Best Principals. The previous one helped raise the school standards incredibly with a focus on character development. The current one truly cares about the kids and staff. She waves to parents she knows and makes the effort to get to know each pupil. She collected the entire staff to attend my ward’s mother’s wake, despite the fact that my girl was only 1.5 mths old in the school.
3. Great teachers who care about the students. There’s remedials for those falling behind and enrichment for those who are more advanced academically. Probably the same in most schools but really caring teachers. Pastoral care is really, really good at helping students with their feelings, directing thoughts and helping parents understand their kids and vice versa.
Culturally, this is a great holistic environment to develop at your own pace. Not too much homework to killjoy and enough room to stretch and grow. My girl and I have built a relationship with the bookshop ladies who are really helpful to those on financial aid, too. There are no snobbish airs at Kuo Chuan. All are treated the same - with discipline, kindness and grace.
So, if you are looking for a peace of mind without chasing too lofty a dream, this is a great values-added school in the Bishan neighbourhood that serves my girl’s schoolmates from as far as Woodlands, Clementi, Tampines and its vicinity. The neighbourhood, which is clean (without unnecessary naughty kids around, ready to prey on innocent young minds) and within the reach of 2 MRT lines, makes it conducive for a good character-building school. -

RE: Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) Childcare Centre
Review on PCS Yishun.
This is a childcare or kindergarten more focussed on the kids’ welfare and blessing the community. They do not harp on money matters like other centres. They are more concerned with the orientation and intake of the child. I had to chase them to pay, instead. Uniforms are easier to maintain without ironing. You pay for mattress covers not mattress. A rather refreshing experience and helpful to first timers who are unfamiliar with the education process.
Principal Ms Irene is extremely helpful and compassionate - the best childcare principal experience I have had. She evokes confidence and trust. School has kid-focussed teachers and old-timer ancillary staff like the cook, are very helpful. However, the Admin Asst is not friendly and gossipy. A good place to send kids for basic childcare with huge playground and park next to it that the kids use before lunch. Lots of play/draw activities. Do note that there are open access windows and easy to open gates as there is a trusting culture so anyone may speak to kids through them and any stranger can peep in to observe. Again, because of the large number of windows/louvres, it is very airy and provides healthy fresh air into the classroom. I would recommend kids coming here to used face-shields vs masks. Core teachers engage parents if you want to engage. If you are a parent who wants your child to learn humility, manners and easy friendships, this is the best place in Yishun.
If you are Christian and expect Sunday school type of curriculum, do note that this pre-school will not be similar to a church-grounds preschool like St James, apart from "Jesus loves me" song. I am quite particular in asking my kid what he learns everyday so I’ve found you will need to anchor Christian education at home, even though this is missions-led. This is a typical pre-school that seeks to bless the less advantaged community in Yishun. Bottomline, very strong in social growth for my child, flexible culture and he was blessed. -
RE: Peiying Primary
erratic:
Hi Erratic,:rahrah: :rahrah: hello! im a former student from peiying primary school. in fact, i just graduated this year. i honestly enjoyed my school life and days there. hope your children would enjoy theirs too. i would definitely be very glad to help about any questions about peiying.
i've been to two after-school daycare centres from primary 2-4
primary 2-3 at blk 812 and primary 4 at proteach. you can also ask me any questions hahah.
My Godchild is attending Peiying. Could you enlighten me if there is a difference between the classes, apart from the different names embodying different values?
Also, i tried looking at the CCAs list on the website. It looks conservative and there doesn't seem to be much that a student could sign up for. What is the quality of CCA training there when compared to other schools like... maybe Kuo Chuan PPS? How many CCAs can my kid sign up for?
What are your best memories about being at Peiying? What are your best memories of teachers there? What would you do differently there, looking back? What are some things you wish the school was able to offer you in terms of student development?
Was there an overseas trip? What did you gain from that trip and how do the kids who can't go, feel? I am keen to understand the social environment at Peiying to see how I can add more value to my Godchild as she journeys there.
Finally, did any of your schoolmates land in RGS or KCPSS or Chinese High?
