During my time (donkey years ago!), more students took geog in my school as apparently it was easier to score. I had decided to take history instead as that was my interest. My cohort did really well and 80% of both geog & history had A1s. I also got mine!
Can anyone give some advice on humanities subjects? which ones are more manageable? which ones are easier to score more marks?
So... also depends on the school. Some schools always do better In humanities ... -

Language was never my forte. Hence, I’ve calculated that the best that I can achieve is B3 for my humanities. Add in a B3 for English, my baseline would be 6 points for L1R5. Just needed all distinctions for the rest of the 4 subjects.
Easy. -
Wow. Anyway i was just hoping to hear some experiences from some of the gurus here… cos i also don’t know what’s the interests… haha times have changed 1080 deg from the time i took my o levels… sounds like i damn old… haha

I would suggest taking Literature as one of the Humanities subjects.

Literature teaches universal values. It enhances the ability to empathize with others, considers situations from the perspective of others and gains an understanding of the human condition.
This will increase their appreciation of the English language. Literature is useful for preparing the General Paper and Economics topic for JC.
Double pure Science and Double humanities offers more choices as compared to Triple pure Science and single humanities. Based on merits, students with higher percentage chose Double pure science and double humanities and triple pure science with single humanities subject is not so favoured nowadays. You only need to do double Science and a contrasting subjects in JC. Taking triple pure science with one humanities is like a gamble. Pray hard you study hard and score well for that single humanities. With double Science subjects, you have a choice to use one of the better Humanities subjects to gain entry to JC. -

Ultimately, it’s really a question that no one can answer. Students may be getting smarter (and better at dealing with exams), the subject requirements and “fit” haven’t really changed.

Broadly speaking, if the ward’s EL is good, literature would be a good choice. If his maturity is high and understands that white is sometimes black or grey, this could be a good subject to choose.
Geography are pretty ‘factual’ and good for those who don’t mind memorizing and regurgitating them. It’s fairly dry for some people though
History for those who like to psychoanalyze. Would probably be good for those who likes to keep asking why or conspiracy theorist  -

Btw, why is it that the kids (and their parents) do not know how to select their subject combi? Are the secondary schools not advising them based on their strengths, and also based on the future opportunities??
During my time, I don't remember the school teachers providing any guidance on how to choose. Is this STILL lacking in schools? Surely someone would have spotted this gap by now?? -
Another burning question that I have: why does subject combi matter for IP students?? Don’t they skip O levels anyway??

I think some subjects at JC level comes with prerequisite. Hence, subject combi still somehow matters.
