② While https://www.temasekjc.moe.edu.sg/academic/subject-combinations contains some Indicative cut-offs as well. For instance (quoting the document), H2 CH at ALevels -> B3 for Pure CH at OLevels, or A2 for Combined Science (CH) at OLevels

It seems that you do Not need to take pure sciences at OLevels to qualify for H2 sciences at ALevels, & different colleges may have different prerequisites

Oic... There are a few paths; since you mentioned Ntu, for instance, https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/admissions/pre-md-pathways/ntu-duke-nus-medicine-pathway (Ntu has described their eligible programs very comprehensively on their website, including Indicative Grade Profile & intake size 👍)

Doing A levels as a private candidate is not easy. Even with tutors, it can be difficult to self-study to the standard required, especially to get into competitive courses. Also, for Science subjects, I'm not sure how you would be able to arrange for lab work as a private candidate, especially as he is serving NS at the moment. Just something to consider.

If I may just chip in a little bit…he already did poly right? Instead of going backwards to A levels, he can actually move forwards. Poly education is closer to Uni standards. He could either start on his offered NTU course, do the common 1st year modules, then try to switch to a different course in NTU. Or NUS.


DH did combined Science for O levels. Went to Poly Biotech course. He had a lot to catch up in overseas Uni Biochem course, but some bridging modules were provided to fill in the gaps. Not much point to go back and take A level Biology just to meet the Pre-requisites. It is way too tough (and too theoretical to score well in, for Poly thinkers).

this boy is thinking of taking medicine in NUS. he did combined science and pure bio in secondary school.
went to EEE in SP.
now he is seriously thinking of switching to medicine and study cardio.
