Hi, we are considering Nan Hua High School as a DSA option for my son, as it has the cca that he is able to offer as a talent. It is also located nearby. However, because it is a SAP school, it states in their DSA requirements that Higher Chinese (HCL) at PSLE is preferred. My son does not take HCL at psle and CL is one of his weaker subjects. Is HCL /CL very important for Nan Hua DSA offer ? Because if based on past experience, if his chance of getting an offer is low …then perhaps it is better to look at other schools. Any input from parents with any info , I would be v grateful. Thanks

As it is a sap school, being strong in Chinese will definitely help him.

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question on the DSA process. Hopefully, someone here can get back to you. Still, I may be cautious on the response either way, as it could \"depend\" or vary from year-to-year. I.e. unless everyone tells you otherwise, it probably depends on how good your son is at the CCA and who else applies. This is possibly indicated by the fact that for CCAs HCL is preferred whereas for Leadership it is required. Further, per a few posts above, Nan Hua is running both CL and HCL classes (despite being a SAP school, they do not force everyone into HCL so it's likely there are other no HCL in primary school students too).

Nevertheless, I would make sure your son takes a look at the \"SAP Flagship\" page. I think there is a difference between a) weaker subject but willing to work hard and learn vs b) weaker subject and don't really like doing. Being a SAP school, there will likely be a lot of CL related activities (some of these may be conducted in Chinese). Thus, the culture/environment should be a notable factor along with CCA and location.
Hope you can get some more definitive answers here. If not, maybe try to contact the school or wait for some DSA Open House.
