Agreed. Caldecott MRT used to be a sleepy, little-used station on the Circle line. But I see works currently underway to expand the entire station into the huge interchange it will be (with the Thomson-East Coast line), with multiple exits and taxi stand/pick up points.

It looks like they are gearing up for the station to take the future commuter load of a semi-mega town.
Looked at some past data albeit till 2017... IJ TP had ballots for 2B for >2km in 3/11 years since 2006. Thats a gd ratio and hopefully rate maintains 2018 to 2021 If i still wanna remain housed where i am.

Past 2 years trend had changed to 1-2km and <1km. See below.
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91621&start=50

Unless there’s a huge drop off in the number of Phase 1 and 2A applicants, the trend for balloting either < 1km or 1-2km is likely to maintain.

The older trend was from a period of time when Toa Payoh wasn’t being rejuvenated. However, there are several BTO and condos built within 1km of CHIJ TP in the last 10 years. Some of the school going children could be coming of age, leading to the trend we are seeing now.

Given that the piece of land around Caldecott station will be redeveloped with new BTO, I think loving forward, demand for the school will get higher.
Same thing probably happening for MSHS due to Bidadari so much so that my schoolmate decided to pay up as an alumni member to \"keep his risk to a minimum\".

Even before Bidadari was completed, I was completely taken aback by the number of condos surrounding the school when revisiting this area after many years.

I went to visit a few of those condo launches back then, with the intention to buy for son’s P1 registration.

Surprisingly for a development with one of the main selling points being the school, none of the property agents were able to tell me whether the timeline would satisfy the MOE requirements for move-in date. I’m sure they could have looked it up but no…all rookie.

“Several thousand new public housing units will be built in Caldecott and Toa Payoh East in the coming years under the Remaking Our Heartland scheme for Toa Payoh, which will also include a facelift for the iconic pedestrian mall in the town centre.”

That explains the level of activities around Caldecott station.

Hi parents ,

Mommy of a Monkey girl, wanted opinion about which primary school. Would be eligible for phase 2C admission only. Contemplating moving with. In 1 KM of Rosyth vs CHIJ Toa Payoh / CHIJ Nicholas. I have read Rosyth can be tough to get in but it has no affiliation vs CHIJ which are girls school with secondary affiliation. What would u recommend , which is better. Thanks

CHIJ TPY will have better chance, though it should also ballot <1km. The affiliation cut off is also much better than St. Nick.

Err...

SNGS affiliated COP is 230.
CHIJ TP affiliated COP is 201.
Huge difference.

None of the above.

Frankly, if you wanna move house, it has to be for a school that has a place guaranteed for you or at least with a high chance of getting in. Rosyth and SNGS will only get you a lucky draw ticket with very low odds of success.

While CHIJ TP offers better odds of success, I really don’t see the point of shifting house if affiliation is what you are after. There are probably several girls’ schools that offer affiliation and a guaranteed place for SC without having to move the house by 1 meter. CHIJ TP may be a popular school, but it’s not necessarily a better option.

If you really insist on shifting, require affiliation and want a reasonably good chance of getting in, you should be going for SCGS. However, property prices within 1km, even if you are looking at rental, are not cheap.

Probably.

Allow me to add on that IJTP has an affiliated COP of 201 while the none affiliated COP is circa 246 (2019 data as I do not have 2020's COP):
Net \"discount\" of 46.

SNGS affliated OP COP is 230, non affiliates 253:
Net \"discount\" of 23.

(No affiliation bonus for IP)

This might what Davidchew might be referring to.

The other example (just for illustration as KS8310's child is a girl) is Catholic High: 240/249:
Net discount of just 9.
