I read in the ST that there will be letters sent to them with info of where they can go and how to make appointments.
Not sure how they will notify the elderly folks age >70 when it’s their turn to get vaccinated.
-

Oh no! That dashes my hope. I wld like to take the vaccine but really can’t for allergic rhinitis sufferer? If it’s just reactions, can I still opt in?
My mum’s doctor told her she cannot get the vaccination becos as a cancer patient she has a weakened immune system. Not sure if MIL is interested to take (she is not yet 70 years old).
DH getting his tomorrow with some colleagues. Heard there’s a very long Q like several hours.
I’m not sure if I can take. Saw a news report that the 3 people in SG who had anaphylactic reactions to the vaccine had history of either allergic rhinitis or shellfish allergy.
-
Some old folks like my 2 pairs at home are innocently waiting for Sinovac to be approved. But I read somewhere it's only done trials on 18-59 years old so that's why China and Indonesia are not jabbing their elderly. The Phase 3 trials data on the older age group have not been released, so...maybe that's why 67-yr-old Xi Jinping has not even taken his own native vaccine?! LOL. I've shared the info with my folks and hope they make the right decision, though my mom is allergic to seafood and might not react well to the vaccine. Some of the earliest SCs who received the shots had bad reaction?? \"All of them had a history of allergies, including allergic rhinitis and food allergy such as to shellfish\"

Actually I'd feel more at ease and assured, if I were to take mine in those large convention halls with long queues and medical back-ups!! When they eventually roll out to non frontliners like us, we might end up having to take ours in GP clinics??
Wonder if those HDB clinic nurses would know how to handle thawed vaccines allocated to their clinic or not. ''Sekali'' their one and only clinic freezer breaks down like the one in Seattle over the weekend! Will they jab me with the flu vaccine by mistake or not, since their freezer has other common vaccines?! ROTFL! :xedfingers:

Thank you for sharing, zacs mum. Keep safe

I can’t find the link to the Straits Times article any more. From what I read, it’s only those with history of anaphylactic shock who are plecluded from taking the vaccine.

For those who have allergic rhinitis or shellfish allergy, I guess u can still take (I’m sure the doctor will brief you fully in English before jabbing you - dunno about those elderly folk).
The article mentioned that every single one taking the vaccine is monitored on-site for 30 minutes to watch for any adverse reactions. And they have on standby (given the overseas history of adverse reactions already known) quick and strong anti-histamines to counteract any anaphylactic shock — which they used on those 3 unfortunate pax in SG.
So u decide if u want to go thru the possible “fun” of experiencing the anaphylactic shock & being rescued from it...I am thinking twice. -

Any reason why your seniors are waiting for a particular brand?

DH and kids have allergies so may not be suitable to proceed. -
I have a history of allergies. Will check with my BILs.

Oh one more point to add which the article had mentioned…after those 3 were rescued with the antihistamine, they are not allowed to take the 2nd dose of vaccine.
