Has there been any history in the P1 registration of Phase 2A1 having to ballot for 1-2 km? I am aware that every year the stats are different depending on the various factors

Yes,
for these past years (2015, 2018, 2020), there was intense balloting competition at Phase 2A1 , for students (girls) who are SC living beyond 2 km.

Who are these \"Phase 2A1\" mommies (parents) ?

a lot, plenty, since St Nick is a \"Full\" school. They could have graduated, studied previously from either St Nick (primary P1 to P6 PSLE or Secondary 1 to O-level) last time, several years ago.


Hence,
St Nick potential Phase 2A1 (Alumni) mommies whose daughters are SC staying more than 2 km, need to be mentally prepared that

in the event that say, unlucky, your daughter got balloted \" Out\" during Phase 2A1,
then have to be on standby,
continue to enrol your girl by subsequent Phase ( either 2A2 or 2B or 2C), in another primary school instead.


Question
Which are your possible \"stand-by\" schools ?

These \"standby\" schools can be :-

1) your spouse ex (former) \"co-ed\" primary school, or


2) yourself, own ex (former) \" Transfer-in\" primary school.

Example

Say, many years ago, you have managed to transfer in successfully into St Nick, from SAP schools like

\"Pei Chun\" or

\"Ai Tong\" or

\"Chong Fu\"

primary school before, back then in those days, at the end of your (P2 or P3 or P4) past education journey.


Then, please kindly ensure, it is important that

you do Not lose your ex (former) primary school's Report card, even if you have shifted house mean-while after your past PSLE graduation

Or


the ink printed out onto your past report card content did not smudge even though so many years have passed by, or maybe the black ink get stuck to the Report card plastic material until cannot see the content clearly anymore, through the passage of time,

since you did not graduate from there, therefore did not possess any Psle certificate from your ex (former) primary school.


Thus, Report card is your only means of verification & proof (evidence) during Primary 1 Registration time ,
if you wish to enrol your daughter back into your ex (former) primary school,
under subsequent Phase 2A2, should you fail in balloting unlucky, during alumni Phase 2A1 (St Nick).


3) under Phase 2B,
can be another CHIJ missionary related school, if your daughter is a Catholic, & are still interested in enrolment into an \"All-Girls\" primary school.

Eg.

can consider other same
CHIJ family related \" cousin \" schools :-

CHIJ (Kellock or Queen of Peace or Nativity or OLGC or Toa Payoh or Katong ) primary


4) under Phase 2C,
can enrol your daughter into another primary school nearby your house, as long as vacancies still remain.

I suggest you try to get ahold of the P1 spelling & Tingxie lists of the various schools you are comparing. Maybe PM the existing parents.

Recently I compared boys school, co-ed school & girls school (CHIJ TPY, to be specific), the disparity in what’s required is shocking. Standards increase in that order. SNGS could be far higher.

One thing to note and be mindful of when comparing such lists, especially tingxie, SNGS is a SAP school. Hence, they may demand a little bit more, especially in Chinese.

For ref. The above is taken from the back page of the Chinese textbook. These are the Chinese words that will be taught in every non-SAP school in Primary 1. Each new Chapter will be taught in roughly 1-2 weeks. Higher Chinese will have slightly more new words per chapter.

By K1-K2 age, most parents can assess whether their child will be able to handle such volumes of new info, at that speed.

For tingxie in St Nick (SAP school), from P3 to P6, not sure about (starting P1 nor P2),

usually laoshi test the
whole class tingxie, by asking pupils to write out in one or two whole complete sentences, from start (beginning) to end, with a full stop.
St Nick tingxie don't test students with individual \"two-by-two\" ci-yu. We tingxie our students, using full complete sentence (s).

Thus, when come to Upper primary (P5 and P6), these set of accumulated memorized tingxie in complete sentences , containing \"hao ci hao ju\" inside, proved very useful.

Why ?

Because sometimes,
lao shi want us (students) to memorize the tingxie, so that subsequently, we can then apply them directly into our regular Term tests zuowen or regular zuowen classroom assignment or in Psle zuowen.


Apply, in the sense that, as and when the picture \"kan tu zuowen\" scenario or \"qin jin zuowen\" scenario is given to us, students just automatically \"cough out\" the appropriate, relevant memorized tingxie complete sentences, which have already been captured & \"deposited\" inside the students' brain (head) database, for sometime.

Every zuowen (composition) has a central theme, behind.

Example

a) can be someone do kind deed, \" hao ren zuo hao shi\".

Eg.

a common P3 Chinese \"kan tu\" zuowen can be

say, an old lady slipped and fell down on a road side. Her grocery bag containing oranges broke. The oranges rolled out onto the pavement. A helpful student witnessed the scene, do kind deed, bent down on the pavement, helped the old lady picked up the oranges one by one, placed them back into the grocery bag, helped the old lady get up, ... (to be continued)

Chinese is a language, that can be learnt in byte size small portion, bit by bit, & slowly accumulated over many years. Xue hua-wen is \"man man de lei ji\" (means slowly accumulated).

That's how gradually, our zuowen phrases \"hao ci hao ju\" improved, over a few years of memorized tingxie, in full complete sentences.

Hi, just kaypohing... We do 默写句子 (roughly 16 words to memorise), on top of some 5词组 & 3短句, from ~P3 onwards. In the case of enriched Higher Chinese classes (banded P4 onwards), besides this regular 听写默写 set, there are an additional 9短语 per chapter

It is probably too early to gauge her academic strength at kindergarten.

Do you have alternative choices of primary schools with better affiliate minimum requirement (AMR)? If not, it may be better for her to study in SNGS. Work closely with her teachers and give her the support when required. Most kids can handle P1 and P2 well.

My girl likes to dawdle, so am concerned that she cannot handle the competitive school environment as she progresses (if she can get in).
