We are planning to rent a place within 1km from the chosen school and try getting in under Phase 2C. Assuming my child does get admission under the priority distance category, we intend to either rent another property or buy one but all which is still within 1km.
MOE rules state that the child needs to stay at the declared address for at least 30 months. Previously their FAQ had the answer which says as long as still within 1km it’s allowed but now I can’t find it anymore.
Can anyone help? If we move out of the rental unit but move to some place still within 1km during this 30 months, is this allowed?
Logically I thought it should be ok as we are still within 1km so do not break any rules. It’s just a different address all within 1km. But I am not sure now as I can’t find that FAQ anymore.
Thanks -

Yes it’s allowed, as long as same or better distance.

Hi,
My son is eligible to apply for P1 registration for 2022 in Phase 2C (which typically starts in Aug every year).
I stay on lease currently which ends in mid July. I want to know if I should be at the new address before start of P1 registration process (i.e. end of June/1st week of July) or it can be before start of Phase 2C (early Aug ) ? Thanks -

U should be physically living at the new address on 1 July 2021 (the start of the entire P1 registration exercise in MOE’s eyes), regardless of how late your own particular phase 2C starts.

What u can do is move all your stuff to the new place earlier, start the electricity bill etc & get your NRIC address changed first. Then u take your time to clean up the old rented place and just handover the keys when your lease ends.

Based on the FAQ for resale properties, I think it should apply to rental agreement as well, that is to move in by 2-Jan and stay for 30 months. -
No I believe it is for purchased properties only. Because the legal “completion” process takes several months.
Not applicable for rental properties because Tenancy Agreement can go through very quickly without much hassle at all. No mortgage and ownership rights involved. -

There are cases where the unit is only available after some months, which the tenancy agreement will start months later. Anyway, better to call MOE.

Unfortunately, zac’s mum is right. For rental property, you have to be staying in at point of registration.
