What u can do is move all your stuff to the new place earlier, start the electricity bill etc & get your NRIC address changed first. Then u take your time to clean up the old rented place and just handover the keys when your lease ends.

Based on the FAQ for resale properties, I think it should apply to rental agreement as well, that is to move in by 2-Jan and stay for 30 months.

No I believe it is for purchased properties only. Because the legal “completion” process takes several months.


Not applicable for rental properties because Tenancy Agreement can go through very quickly without much hassle at all. No mortgage and ownership rights involved.

There are cases where the unit is only available after some months, which the tenancy agreement will start months later. Anyway, better to call MOE.

Unfortunately, zac’s mum is right. For rental property, you have to be staying in at point of registration.

I like to seek for some clarity for address to use. We are going to move near Bukit Timah area in June. However, we been informed that the current tenant due to some unforeseen would like to extend till end June that is 30th to hand over.

And for what I know in order to use our new address for registration, our address need to be reflected on NRIC by 1st July. Hence does it mean I can’t use my new address for registration if the tenant lease end 30th June?

Yup. Tell the tenant u have a pressing need to move in by 30 June.

Thanks for the advise. We managed to fix the move in date on 30th June. By the way, May I ask if the primary registration always on 1st July ?
