To be honest, SCGS is very kind in that even special programmes such as BSP, is primarily interest driven. You don't have to do well in HCL to qualify to participate in the programme.

When you say BSP is primarily interest driven, does that mean participation in the program is by application? So if I get 55% in HCL but I am very interested, I apply and I get it? Since it is interest driven.

Or is it by selection? Where students are first offered the program and they choose whether or not to participate in it based on their interest?

I don't have the exact entry criteria to BSP, but the bar is not high. There are B-grade HCL kids in BSP (not sure about C graders as my DD did not apply). Participation in the program is by application - there are no stated criteria (though I would imagine if you are failing, you won't get admitted lol). There is no 'shortlist' to apply, so to say.[/quote]So it is by application. And if I get a C, but I am very interested, even though people may think I am crazy, there is nothing to stop me from filling up the application form. But whether I get it or not, is not clear because we dont know if anyone with a C applied and got in. So until we know for sure that every application guarantees acceptance, we cannot really say it is interest driven. At most it is interest first, then selection.

Thought students applied for BSP is because they wanted the scholarship.

Why would students study BSP, without applying for the MOE (BSP) scholarship ?
        First statement, untrue.
2nd line, why not? Scholarship comes with commitment.

My DS' school has a stated criteria - I can't recall A2 or B3 for both languages (that already weeds out a significant proportion of the cohort), and some overall grade as well.

            In SCGS -

BSP (Bi-cultural studies program) is a subject on its own, pretty time consuming.

For students who are taking BSP, does SCGS school still allow them to do Triple Pure Sciences, or ask them to drop to Double Sciences instead ?
Hmm I hope this is not a double post - for some reason I can't find my reply to this question.

SCGS allows Triple Sc + Double Humanities + BSP, but you need to qualify for this by obtaining AND maintaining 75% overall from Sec 2 onwards to read this 10-subject combination. I would imagine only the top 10 to 20 girls in SCGS can achieve that, if at all. Most of the girls reading BSP are taking Double Sci + Double Humanities though there is a handful of 10-subject kids (some of whom read BSP).

In my DS' school, you generally cannot take BSP with Triple Science.

Just that maybe the criterion here is low. But yes I agree with you that while there is nothing to stop me from applying, if I get a C or D it is unlikely that I will apply. You’ll more likely find me looking for the application form to drop HCL than the form to join BSP. 😂

In a similar way, some people will continue with 3rd language even if they are getting Cs…they just want to hang on to a 9th subject and give themselves flexibility to drop the subject later on.

SCGS allow only HCL students to apply for BSP ?

How about O-level Standard CL bu-hua students who are keen, can they apply for BSP too, if they scored B3 & above in bu-hua ? And if they are offered BSP, then they must cross over to IP ?

very sorry this one i am not sure cos my DD is in IP and took HCL so i didnt really pay attention to the options for O lvl or bu hua girls.

For IP girls, at end Sec 2 they choose their sciences, humanities, optional additional subjects, and one of four academies ( i think project work largely done with academies…so were some overseas trips pre covid) of which my DD picked liberal arts academy.

                        Hi phtthp,

I just browsed the SCGS website which says that the BSP is offered to IP students.

I am not sure how large the class size is for BSP. I only know that my DD’s Sec 1/2 and current Sec 3 class, comprises 30 girls.

I don’t think BSP is a heavily subscribed option at SCGS - it certainly is interesting, but there are also other interesting pursuits like Art, Music, 3rd Language, or some will opt for Triple Science.
