Indicate PSLE Score Range of 2020 for IP Schools

        Note (for SAP schools)
HCL Grade: (D) = Distinction, (M) = Merit, (P) = Pass; The HCL grades of the first and last student admitted into SAP schools are reflected in parenthesis. If the first or last student did not take or pass HCL, no HCL grades will be shown.

        2)

        Express Affiliated 5(D) - 14
        Express Non-affiliated 5(D) - 8(M)

        3)
        Dunman High School 4(D) - 8(D)

        4)
        Hwa Chong Institution 4(D) - 7(M)

        5)
        Nanyang Girls' High School
        Affiliated 4(D) - 8(M)
        Non-affiliated 4(D) - 7(M)

        6)
        River Valley High School 4(M) - 9(D)
Let's zoom into above SAP schools, based on 2020 cohort

How do you interpret CHS ?

Suppose two boys applied for Catholic High (CHS).

        One boy applied for IP.
He gotten 8 AL points but his HCL is only a \"Pass\", not \"Merit\".

Does it mean that he failed to enter Catholic High (IP), because noticed that Moe specified IP cut off at 8 points with a \"Merit\" in Higher Chinese, not just merely acquired a \"Pass\" ?

The second boy (Non affliation ) scored AL 9 points, also with a Pass in HCL.

Does it mean that he failed to enter CHS (O level track), because he acquired a \"Pass \" in HCL, not a \"Merit\", but MOE specify must have at least a \"Merit\" for O-level course, whose Cut off point AL 9 ?

        ==================

How to interpret River Valley High (RV), whose Cut off at AL 9, with \"Distinction\" in Higher Chinese ?

Does it mean all those students with AL 9 who applied for RV, but armed with either a \"Pass\" or \"Merit\" in their HCL -
all didn't make it to RV ?

        If true,
means all those who are applying for SAP schools, their HCL performance ranking is important, because the sequence of choosing your 6 choices schools become crucial

          Take RV for example,

It simply means the last student who got admitted to RV in 2021 Sec 1 scored 250+3
And 250 is translated to AL9

COP is the PSLE score of the last pupil admitted into the school. So if for year 2021 (S1 Admission 2022), the COP for CHS IP is 8(M), then students with 8(P) and below (ie., 8, 9(D), ...) will be unsuccessful even in they put CHS IP as first choice. Similarly, the students in the other 2 examples you quoted above will not be successful.

Based on 2020 cohort simulation results, looks like

if want to enter SAP schools but students gotten only a \"Pass\" in HCL, under AL S1 posting system, slim chance of admission.
As good as not having sat for Psle HCL paper at all, despite studying hard in HCL. Minimum need a \"Merit\" ?

A far cry from old Tscore system !
Even a +1 bonus point (Pass in HCL) was so useful !

Every system will have pros and cons. My nephew 4 years ago had T-score of 254 (but no A-star, only 4 A), so likely his AL score is 8 (assuming A-star is 1 and A is 2). He entered CHS IP on that year, so next year, he will not make it to CHS IP. Another example is my DD’s classmate in last year PSLE, who scored 256 with 3 A-star and 1 A, so AL 5 score. Can make it to the independent schools next year, whereas last year she cannot enter into RGS and NYGH, but went MGS IP.

                        3A* is AL1x3 but
                        1A can be above 75, AL4
