Plastic Surgery/ Botox Enhancements.. ..Are they 'worth it'?

Hi,


Yesterday brought my girl to KKH to see a plastic surgeon. She has a lump on her cheek, the size of a 5 cents coin. It has been there for 7 weeks. We thought it was due to a fall and simply apply some cream on it, hopefully it will go away. It never and so we decided to bring her to KKH. The doctor told me it could be a cyst or broken blood vessel which he is not sure also. He told me to go for surgery to remove the lump. The surgery would leave a scar on my child’s face.

Would you be able to recommend a good plastic surgeon who is skilful without leaving a scar on the face?

Why don't you seek another advice from a specialist? I mean in the skin centre before you make any decision to remove the lump. I'm worried that it's not just a simple lump that can be treated with a simple surgical removal.

Btw, you should quickly buy some policy for your child first.

I had a friend who sought only 1 doc, went for surgery after his advice - thought it was Appendicitis'typhlitis (盲肠炎). After doctor slit him open, found no problem but removed the appendic anyway, sewed him back up and charged him for the surgery. Then he told my friend that it wasn't 盲肠炎, my fren nearly fainted. But what can he say, still got to pay right? Few months later, he is doing chemo therapy for a more serious problem.

I'm not trying to scare you with this case, but what I'm trying to tell you is, sometimes it depends on the skills of the doctor. Different doctor, different level of skills, it doesn't mean that when he passed his doctorate level, he is necessarily cleverer in determining our illness.

I know of a GP, he uses both Western and Chinese medical knowledge, but the medicine is all Western type. He has treated my mum from an almost kidney failure. If my mum had gone to the hospital straight, they would definitely put her under some medication (to slow down the failure) and then few years later, she would definitely need the dialysis as the medication only 治标不治本. You can PM me if you are interested.

Another lady had a lump on her breast, this GP told her the lump is not cancerous, no need to go surgery to remove. But anyway, she did go ahead with the surgery. After removal of one breast, the specialist there told her the lump was not cancerous.

Agree with with, it is always good to seek second opinion on the nature of the lump. If the doc is not even sure if it is a cyst or a broken blood vesse, then may be you need someone else who know to access the lump and do the proper test.


you may want to go to National skin center or a specialist skin doc to make sure the lump is harmless and see if there are other ways of removing it.

Yes. I will defintely seek a second opinion. The problem is where should I go now? To a PD or National Skin Centre? I am concerned that they will refer me to KKH again. My cousin has recommended Prof Giam Yoke Chin who specialises in PD Dermatology. Or to a plastic surgery centre? Most likely the surgeon will recommend the surgery. It’s difficult to make a decision.


Thanks Winth, I have already bought a medical insurance for my child. She will only be covered if the lump is due to an accident (e.g. a fall) or if she has surgery or needs hospitalisation. I won’t be able to claim from insurance company on these medical bills for just seeking consultation from doctors.

Recovery was tedious and painful. After two weeks her facial features started 'correcting'.. .umm...
I wonder if fellow KSP parents can share more..

'correcting' means got worse than before surgery or got distorted/unrecognisable? It must be a major procedure, otherwise recovery shouldn't take so long, rite? Maybe the surgeon is not skilled enough.
I don't think I'll go for any botox or whatever. Sounds very scary, aging is inevitable and so let be it.

Hi,

My friend transferred 'fats' from waist to cheek area amongst other stuff..Two months down and her looks still 'adjusting' leh.. According to doctor it will settle and be best couple of months after surgery and lasts for awhile. A vein popped and sits under the eyebag area prominently and she has already making plans for second round..

Looking at her puffier cheeks and altered face shape, I kinda miss my old friend's original look. ..She used to be full of expressions when we yakked, rolling eyes, twitching face, open her eyes real wide and stare hard pattern..
No more liao :sad: ...
