Hi dear fellow Catholic High primary parents,

Can I have someone's recommendation for English private tutor that you might have engaged before for your CHS boys? My P2 boy is weak in writing and I have put him through English writing centers for 2 terms but seems to have very little impact. So I thought maybe more targeted 1-1 help could work better. Highly appreciate if anyone has used effective English tutor (I heard CHS has quite unique teaching methodology in Eng and Math, so maybe some tutors experienced in teach CHS boys might be more relevant?). Can PM me if possible 🙂 many thanks!!

Hi, not sure whether you got your reply.

What do you mean by little impact? Is it that his compositions do not get good marks in school?

Do not worry too much as writing usually takes a longer time to improve. Besides, P2s do not have much writings in school. Do encourage your son to read more books. Also read and learn from good compositions (of various themes) each day. I hope you can find a good English tutor. At the mean time, you may want to try out another writing center. It is best that you talk to your son after a trial lesson before deciding whether to enrol him in the centre. Also look at the quality of the resources that the writing center uses to teach.

CHS is strong in its Maths. It is usually the subject with the highest % of A* during those years that the school announced the stats. Part of its Maths curriculum is written by its Maths department. CHS Boys in P3 & 4 learnt more in depth (especially Models and Patterns) compared to many other primary schools. If the boy can do very well for Maths in school, he is likely to do equally well for PSLE Maths.

All the best to your boy!

Hi, just to check is there "express" class in P1?

I’ve talked to seveval parents from different classes, their kid’s class learning progress seems are different, most of class are having common/similar pace except one class (having faster pace and even some additional materials ), that’s the background of my question above. Thanks

There isn’t any streaming in Catholic High. Just as like any other primary school, some teachers do more and some do less that’s all.

As far as i know, this is not the case for catholic high. At least not when my boy was in P1.
