My friend’s P5 daughter in CHIJ TPY received a hard copy letter (from St Nick’s principal) inviting them to St Nick’s e-open house on 24th April. I wonder whether MCS girls received it too?

I've decided with the missus to sign our kid up for MCS as it seems they encourage non-academic development too.
1. Can anyone shed some light on the CCA offering and the facilities in general? I am struggling to find pictures of the school and its facilities nor do they allow visits to 'check it out'.
2. What is the culture and diversity at the school? Nationality mix, discipline, strictness, stress levels, etc...
3. How is the Chinese education system? Imma banana papa and was hoping the school can solve this for me!
Appreciate some insights from those who are familiar or have kids in MCS!

CCA that outstanding are Rhythmic Gymnastics, Netball, and Choir
Kids can have CCA start from term 2 P1 at MCS (optional)
MCS is quite multiracial and all 3 mother tongues are offered there.
For discipline and strictness I said it's okay, the girls are mostly well-behaved.
P1-P2 class size is 30pupils and P3&above class size is 40pupils.
They have banded classes for Math and Chinese (start at P3) and mixed ability class (form class) for English & Science
Since MCS scrapped top class couple of years ago, I think the stress level was reduced.
Last time, kids needed to maintain their grade as top 40 of the cohort yearly to be in top class.
Academic strength is definitely English, MCS English standard looks like one level higher than other school, I printed 1level higher of English past year papers (from top schools) for my girl for study before exam. By end of P5, MCS already covered PSLE syllabus for English and at P6 all English materials are review only.
Chinese subject in MCS, kids are banded since P3 base on P2 results. At P1-P4 MCS only offers standard chinese. Kids with 85and above at the end of P4 can learn Higher Chinese at P5-P6. Usually there are 2 classes HCL at P5-P6.
The average PSLE results for Chinese are not so good, may be just pass National standard 😅
I saw other parents ask about which Secondary the girls going.
Top scorers are going to RGS, St Nick, Cedar girls & SCGS. My girl said no one of her friends was going to NYGH. I think most probably because of location since most girls live around Toa Payoh & Bishan.
The rest depend on the results, can be IJTP, St Margaret, Crescent or co-ed like AMKSS or Beatty.
Please note MCS does not have affiliated Secondary.

Through liaising with several teachers and administrators, I can sense that everyone is proud to be a part of the school. Even before the school term starts, a parent volunteer who has a daughter in the higher primary level, started a chat group and we found other parents with girls enrolling into the same class to join us. Because of that, all of us were clear what to expect and our girls were well-prepared and settled down within the first week of school. My daughter had a lot of fun learning and looks forward to school every day even though she has to wake up at 530am every day (we stay very far).
MCS has very interesting curriculum enrichment lessons like speech and drama for Chinese (which teaches more than just the usual textbook stuff during normal lesson time and my daughter learns more advanced words even though higher Chinese starts at P5) and OELE (read more about it on their website). This year for P1 Term 2 OELE classes, P1 girls can enrol for leadership, chocolate chip cupcake baking, lollipop crochet, learn to cycle classes (require additional reasonable fees). The school has other fun activities like Maths recess quiz and tinkering tasks (the first task my daughter got was to make a marble run project herself).
What I think really help us in terms of logistics is that those who signed up for school bus service, can enjoy to take the 430pm school bus for free. The 430pm school bus operates only on days when there are CCAs after school (not everyday). You can check out the bus routes on MCS website and contact the respective bus drivers to gauge what time they will reach your residence based on this year’s intake.
Based on our experience so far, I encourage parents who are considering MCS to not wait till Phase 2CS to sign up due to balloting in Phase 2CS. We were convinced that MCS is a good school after we went for open house a year ago (when my daughter was 5, yes we were kiasu). The facilities are so new and the school is very big. We also heard the HODs’ and Principal’s sharing over YouTube for an online open house in July last year that affirmed the school values character building and does not emphasize on grades solely to develop the girls to be all-rounders (follow MCS facebook page to be informed when digital open house will take place this year).
Glad we signed up in Phase 2C and didn’t have to go through a “heart attack” as there was no competition to get in. I can see that my daughter takes pride and has become more disciplined in her learning. Whether there is affiliation to secondary school, it is no longer important. As long as the hunger for knowledge is in her, the grades will show and she will get into a secondary school which best fit her ability in future. -

I think you have affirmed what many KSP have been saying all along: MCS is a gem that’s often overlooked in Phase 2C. Now that you have let the cat out of the box......
I saw my friends panicking because their kids had to go through balloting in Phase 2CS last year. By Phase 2CS, there are not many schools left. I think that kind of stress can be avoided if they find a good enough school to get to at Phase 2C. Because if you didn’t get to ballot in for Phase 2CS, you will be assigned to whichever school that is left (even though the school may be inconvenient to get to). It’s good to highlight the risks early so more wouldn’t find themselves in that situation. -

Great to read so many positive feedback about the school. I am planning to register my girl in 2C but we are >2km. Even though in the past years 2C seems to be pretty safe but the jubliee baby cohort is really too big . Look at the number of girls who applied for SNGS. I am keeping my fingers crossed that 2C won’t have to ballot because I am really taking a big chance on this .
The schools within 1km of my place are all competitive coz we stay in an area with many young couples . That’s why I decided to enrol my girl so far away in Marymount and also coz I read from this forum about how good the school is . Anyone also trying their luck in 2C and >2km?
Can I check how is the traffic condition in the morning ? I stay at Fernvale and thinking to ask my husband to drop her off so that she doesn’t have to wake too early for the school bus and then she can just take single trip back to Fernvale. Anyone staying at Sengkang/Fernvale and daughter takes school bus? I wonder how early the pickup will be and how late the drop off is . If my husband sends her I also worry the traffic jam situation will cause him to be late for work hah….
Trying to convince my husband to try for this school in 2C instead of trying for those other schools which we are within 1km. He feels it is a big risk due to this year big cohort .
