oh ok..... interesting...... IB go in at yr 5 still can catch up?[/quote]The real IB is in Year 5 and Year 6. Just like the real A levels is in the last 2 years.
Switching at Year 5 wont be disruptive. It is like going on to pre U after sec 4.MerlionInGermany\" post_id=\"2023430\" time=\"1620621539\" user_id=\"2964:

What is the purpose of doing so, other than what is mentioned? sounds disruptive...... the inconvenience and needing to catch up in a new environment again don't seem to warrant such a move leh...... unless there is a really strong pull factor to do so.....
Which is why people can join ACSI and SJI after O levels and all the JCs take in JAE pupils too. -

I have a friend who sent her child to do IB at international school after O’levels. She shares that her kid needed time to adapt so her younger one joined international school after psle. So far my friends’ kids who attended international schools moved on to local Uni and overseas Uni (study medicine)
Actually with O levels, many of the popular courses in Poly are very competitive (low COP), if O level results are not so ideal, will end up in courses the kid has zero interest. Then might as well take IB route for a second chance to get into Uni and course of the kid’s choice -

It is just that if you join from sec 1, you are supposed to be exposed to components like maybe ToK (IB) or PW (A levels). But it is not like there is any content that you start acquiring for these subjects such that the pupil joining in Year 5 have to catch up on content for the past 4 years.

Yes. Plus the IB is probably and arguably, the most widely recognized pre-university qualification worldwide. Hence naturally, many (globe-trotting) parents do favour the IB.
There are a significant number of S’porean students in ACS/SJI/HC International Schools -
I wonder if MOE will expand the opportunities for more local schools to offer the IB as a pre-university education path, given its popularity, and supposed educational strengths/merits. I am recently becoming more drawn to / convinced of the IB education framework.

Actually our A levels is very very different from the UK A levels already
There is no GP, PW, H1 in the UK A levels .... and the content for the content subjects, while there are similarities, also is largely Singapore-designed. -

SOTA and SSP also offer the IB. But yes I really do wish more local schools will open the International Baccalaureate MYP (Middle Years Program) to average students. Tailor it to cover compulsory MOE topics if necessary. I don’t see why it should be available only to top scorers.

Is IB in local international schools same standard as say ACS(I)? Interesting to know this option…but assuming we foresee kid wont get good O results, IB in International school got chance to be able to change the kid’s fate? Coz in the first place you need good psle score to go into IB…
