One of the black reusable masks is quite thick. I can't imagine putting on 2 such masks.
When people suggest double-masking, it's usually a surgical mask (quite thin) with another kind of mask. Not 2 thick ones at the same time.

I would temper all the advice bandied about according to context of use. If wearing 2 masks is too uncomfortable, wearers are likely to remove them more often. Since the authorities have not issued general advice to double-mask, I won't except for exceptional circumstances. I might consider it if going to a hospital or places where I expect crowds (though I would just avoid those places unless essential), but not for quick trips to the supermarket or when walking around my neighbourhood.

...I've been mainly using the free masks given out by Temaek and PA. We also bought extra so we have been able to replace them. I'm keeping my double-layered home-made cloth masks as spares, but since we aren't going out much, I don't see I will need them...
Yup, the most recent distribution, MaskPlus Livinguard, wears well. But I still instruct my P4 to just completely stay home until such time

Best is don’t go out unless necessary.

There is a time lag before they do the contact tracing. Friend’s school informed them 3 days ago that got confirmed case so move to HBL. Today then MOH called them to say kids must QO cos the confirmed case was in close contact with the whole class. During these 3 days, the whole class of kids could have wandered all over the island liao.

.... now India said they must be wary of us cos the Singapore variant might cause India to go into 3rd wave. But hey, it’s still the B1617 same variant leh! ....

            Isn't B1617 from India ? :scratchhead:

 chief minister did not read details before any how shoot ? 😂 :siam:

Can you imagine if everyday we read news like in Australia, the covid strain is attacking young children, local government in panic mode to vaccinate all children ASAP, I am sure we will be panicking and start calling upon our government to ban Australians from coming in too.

Sigh! Looks like I can’t use my Totobobo mask any more as DMS says…strongly discourage the use of exhalation masks from a public health perspective.

                Tks for replying.

Glad I collected all the free masks given by PA and Temasek.
I do hope the authority can continue to give masks.
This morning I saw a lady buying 2 or 3 boxes of the disposable masks at Guardian.

When government says surgical masks, what are they referring to? Is it any disposable mask, or \those hospital-grade surgical masks? Nowadays disposable masks come in very varying prices.

Lawrence Wong and Leong Hoe Nam both mentioned that masks should have 95% bacterial filtration capability (BFE). LHN also said to look for the \"CE\" mark (European certification). If you buy from a reputable source they should be fine. They also said the the masks handed out by PA and Temasek are good, and so are double-layer cloth masks.

Since those are the ones I see people wearing (are there any single-layer cloth masks being sold and used?), I think what is more important is that people wear their masks properly! I see so many that are so loose that they are dropping off noses, or some people still wearing them on their chins.

Plenty of masks in shops. Prices range quite a bit. I thought the blue masks are surgical masks

I don't think colour should be the main guide. Surely any mask maker can choose the colour of the masks they produce. And I've seen hospital and clinic staff wear masks of other colours too.
