No, they didn't and won't, which I am disappointed. If this article was written by them or they mentioned some of our concerns, I would be impressed
I don't think WP has scored points either. I may be wrong but did they voice out the concerns raised in the article?zac's mum\" post_id=\"2024725\" time=\"1621481228\" user_id=\"53606:
So whose head should roll next GE hah?

I have several friends with families (spouse, children, etc) in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Many had not seen their families physically for over 1 year. The point is, if many had made the sacrificed for the good of everyone else, why was there a special dispensation made for another?
So that article did reflect our sentiments.
I also agree if my family is in boiling water, I would try all means to get them out to a safer place where I am. This is human nature. -

Yes!! Slam table. The older ones how long runway they have. For younger ones, how much they have missed out

What fuelled this perception is the regular official reminder that Singapore needs migrant workers and that there will be a grave economic cost if the country shuts its borders. This has not gone down well because Singaporeans, by and large, do understand that foreign workers are needed in construction, nursing and other sectors which the local workforce shuns. And they are not clamouring for a complete shutdown of the borders.

It did get a bit frustrating that the authorities keep such reminders without seeming to realise the above ...
Just 2 days ago, another \"reminder\" - The ministry revealed this in response to recent calls by members of the public to shut Singapore's borders entirely in order to bring down the number of imported Covid-19 cases...

BTW, can family members in neighboring countries enter Singapore by abiding the quarantine requirements etc?

Actually I find it strange that Singapore and Taiwan are inviting people who've potentially come into contact with confirmed cases to voluntarily go to the swab stations to be tested. They place the onus on potentials to step forward to be tested, instead of forcing them to be tested like what the HK govt is doing (''ambush'' style midnight lockdown testing). A tad draconian but seems like it's working for HK.
Also, if Eg the index case had eaten at the Terminal 3 food court, then his TT data would have allowed MOH to narrow down the contacts to those sitting near him. They could just phone those few people immediately. Don’t need to send out a public appeal to everyone who checked in to the food court that day to go for (voluntary) swab. Look at the long Qs of worried people waiting to be swabbed now, just becos they happened to be at the same malls as the confirmed cases. Could be a whole waste of time & resources like 海底捞针.
For us, we still kindly and civilly appealed to people who'd visited White Sands, JEM, Westgate to be swabbed. What if this 路人甲 does not read online news? Definitely will have people who bochup the request to be swabbed, e.g. the riders or people in denial.
IHLs, hostels, army camps, hospitals, companies, civil service departments, jail and dorms have no problem with administering centralised testing.
Before they reduced 8pax to 5pax, many F&Bs, night spots and retail malls were so crowded with people trying to have their last meals with their friends and relatives, or possibly pre-celebrating Mother's Day. I was at a makan enclave on the eve of that new ruling with my DC. It was super swarmed with youngsters and families in snaking queues outside eateries. Was literally 水泄不通 along the 5-foot-way. I peeked inside those mookata, prata, Korean BBQ and mala hotpot restaurants, aiyo, 8 persons squeezed together at the BBQ table digging in their food and chatting loudly without masks on. True enough weeks later I saw 2 outlets had confirmed cases.
How to trace these diners and loiterers? Passersby like us didn't need to TT as we merely walked past the restaurants full of alfresco seats and queues outside. -

Let's hope the community cases drop to single digits and no unlinked cases soon! -
I was surprised some of the school cluster people were put on LOA. Does it mean they can still go to the supermarket (in twos) to shop?
\"Meanwhile, all staff and students who are close contacts with the Covid-19 cases from Kong Hwa School and St Stephen’s School will be placed on leave of absence or quarantined.\"
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/parenting-education/more-schools-move-to-home-based-learning-after-students-test-positive
Last year we saw Singaporeans and PRC undergrads who'd returned from their March vacation or home trips being placed on 14-day LOA. Netizens were concerned that those LOA fellas were still able to gallivant, resulting in 防疫破口。 I don't know the protocols this year, but technically, they can go out after dark to buy essentials from the 24hr shops yah?
The St Stephens boy in that video posted by emoh was LOA'd first before getting a call that they had to be QO'd. Hope they did not roam the streets while being LOA'd.
There was one Jade-so & so blogger who'd complained that her new Indonesian helper was not picked up immediately after being informed she was positive. Likewise, St Stephens boy was also not picked up promptly by CISCO Certis until 48-36 hours later, Sun 9pm. Could it be because CISCO escorts were fully booked during this period? -
I believe LOA has no legal obligations. It’s SHN and QO that is legally enforceable.
Some of us who are in the education sector may remember that a year ago, the foreign students from certain regions were clamouring (some demanding) to be allowed to go home on grounds of safety, that it is much safer in their home countries than it is in Singapore ! -

If I am not wrong, you submit an application, and are put on a queue. Some people have been on the queue for a very long time. This is possibly one reason why Singaporeans have been flying to visit their relatives (and some will inevitably return with Covid) instead. It's easy for Singaporeans to fly out and back into SIngapore.
BTW, can family members in neighboring countries enter Singapore by abiding the quarantine requirements etc?
