OMG seriously. Thank u for replying my question parent, appreciate it. I was thinking should I try MGS phase 2B within 1km and being only 70% confident to get in or should I just apply paya lebar methodist girl sch which can get in straight at phase 2B within 1km as I checked that that past Yr no need balloting.. Not sure which should I choose. I'm in such a huge dilemma. May I check with you your registered last year is it? And how is it did you child get a slot within the 27 places? πŸ™

Hi Davis, really ongoing you make me filled with hopes. But there is another parent replied saying that I will still need to ballot even at Phase 2B and within 1km distance. Ahhh I'm so confused now. May I check your daughter enrolled in MGS previously? πŸ™‚

Hi, no worries, glad to be of assistance, I can understand the anxiety as a fellow parent. PLMGS is another really good option, and as you rightly mentioned, the odds of getting in at Phase 2B are significantly higher. It all depends on how much risk you are willing to stomach. Haha.. there is no right answer, and it's entirely up to you. πŸ™‚

And yes, we registered last year at Phase 2B, and got in. There's always that element of fortune. So as long as you go in with a clear idea of your Plan A and Plan B schools, and embrace the result, you - and most importantly - your daughter - will enjoy primary school life. Cheers! πŸ™‚

Hi Mummy congrats to you for successfully registered into MGS. May I check with you is it under phase 2B the priority will be given to student staying within 1km first? Than those staying 2km and above? Also how was your daughter experience in the school at P1 so far? Is the school good? Can share a little bit about the school with us too? Thank you very much. πŸ™‚

                  https://www.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-registration/distance

If your chosen primary school has more registrants than vacancies, priority admission will be given based on your child's citizenship and the home-to-school distance (which is in turn based on the address used for registration).

Priority admission is given in this order:

                  1. Singapore Citizens (SC) living within 1km of the school.
                  2. SCs living between 1km and 2km of the school.
                  3. SCs living outside 2km of the school.
                  4. Permanent Residents (PR) living within 1km of the school.
                  5. PRs living between 1km and 2km of the school.
                  6. PRs living outside 2km of the school.

This is applicable to ALL PHASES.

The short answer is, if you're staying more than 1km away from MGS, you don't stand a chance of getting into the school in 2B or 2C. However, the school staff are really kind - from what I understand, once the number of applicants within 1km exceeds the available places for the phase, they personally call all those who live beyond 1km to 'hint', so that these parents apply at other schools and don't waste their application in that phase. Not every school is that kind or takes such an initiative.

As for whether the school is 'good', it all depends on the criteria you're looking for. My wife and I were not seeking the place with the best academic rigour or most in-demand CCAs. We wanted a school that was holistic and all-rounded in its approach to education. One that would focus on aspects such as character building, off-education endeavours, etc, as much as academics. After all, kids spend a good deal of time in school, and very few schools actually focus on building character nowadays. So we wanted a school that emphasised and mirrored values similar to our style of parenting while our child is away from home.

MGS really ticked all the boxes. My daughter is blessed with passionate and nurturing teachers, and the girls in the school seem to be given lots of time and room to explore, grow, and just be children. And yet, the learning is not compromised - it is age appropriate, diversified, progressive, and engaging.

Importantly, because we are Christians, we love that there is weekly chapel, songs of praise and worship, and a focus on character building. My daughter looks forward to school (particularly chapel - she loves to sing and dance, hah), and the school has met our expectations for our girl wonderfully.

If you are looking for an environment to raise an all-rounded girl with Godly values, MGS is probably one of the best schools for it. πŸ™‚

Yes Nard describes it well. But of course sometimes registration risk, expectation and reality are all different things. Kiasumummi, you mentioned 2B for MGS, are you under grassroot leader or church affiliation?

πŸ˜‰ Seems like you can consider PLMGS from your previous comments so I assume you go via the church route. I have friends graduated from PLMGS and very successful now. It's also a through train school with lower cut off for affiliated primary school. And like you said, you can get in via 2B. Based on past balloting you don't even need to live within 2km to get into PLMGS via 2B. It's a guaranteed admission with your church membership and almost guaranteed all the way through O levels, and affiliation to ACJC.

😌 on the other hand you have MGS where it's a sure ballot situation even within 1km. So comparing if you want a guaranteed PLMGS or try luck for MGS. Also, what's your back up if you failed both rounds of 2B and 2C ballot for MGS?

Will you be happy with this 3rd school as compared to a guaranteed PLMGS?

Thank u so much for the comprehensive write up about the school really appreciate it. @Surfergal that was actually my concern, therefore I’m having a dilemma on whether should I try balloting at phase 2B within 1k. or should I go PLMGS straight. Think i would most likely go for MGS at phase 2B and if we couldn’t get in we will go for PLMGS at Phase 2C within 1km.
