Check MOE FAQ. The onus is on you to ensure that you have a tenancy agreement covering your full 30-month obligation to MOE.

Later on, if you want to terminate the lease, just give the agreed number of months’ notice period. Note that it usually cuts both ways. So if u try to negotiate a shorter notice period (Eg 1 week), the landlord will also say he has 1 week to notify you before kicking you out. -

Is there a headache? Just rent a small place you’re comfortable with. Budget according to your ability. We had to make do with a tiny space. Some people lease out their existing place to earn some residual income to offset your expenses. That’s what we did.

How did you derive the choice of school that u wanted for your kid? and go all the way out to rent move your things, perhaps also staying further from your parents and relatives, and taking that big leap to rent a unit at another neighbourhood? Not giving in to nearby neighbourhood school less than 1km.

Long story but basically it’s just what husband and wife discussed over many heart to heart talks & both agreed that we should target a school more aligned with our values and also aligned with our child’s temperament & learning ability.

This is what we're going to do - rent nearby for registration, and then move later (but still within 1km).

In our case, we're moving because:
(i) It's supposed to be a good school (\"supposed\" because isn't every school a good school??), and we think our children will do well in a challenging environment ( :xedfingers: :xedfingers: :xedfingers: );
(ii) We will almost certainly get in anyway, and if we move we will definitely get in;
(iii) The new neighbourhood is nearer our parents;
(iv) We have two kids (so the move seems more worth it!).
I guess we wouldn't think of moving without (i), but probably wouldn't move without (ii) to (iv). But I'm contemplating the packing now, and moving really isn't fun, so I get the headache! -
Jia you! It’s a good time to Marie Kondo your stuff. We gave away majority of the toys and baby books. When kids get to primary school age, they don’t need all those preschooler toys any longer. Every time we move house, we end up getting more minimalist in our lifestyle.
