This is how mine looks like but I’m sure there are newer models as this is using the older fluorescent tubes. The newer LED emergency lighting looks great - smaller, brighter and utilizes less energy.[/quote]

Didn't go into detail, but yes, we were perpetually prepared - torches and spare batteries, rechargable lights (so the kids could do their homework!), bottled water, matches (for the gas cooker)... But anyway, it was only a few hours at a time. I don't think we had any longer than 12 hrs, often about 2-3 hrs. Sitting in the dark - we went the old-fashioned way of telling stories, playing chanting/memory games (\"I went to market and bought...\" etc), singing songs, etc. In later years, the power outages became less frequent, and my younger daughter said she missed those evenings sitting in the dark - I think she missed having so much of our attention!

We didn't get a generator as it was expensive and noisy, and not very suitable if you don't live on the ground floor. We just checked that the rechargable lights were recharged periodically.

Thank you for sharing! I guess I’m “glad” we had our first power outage .. (albeit nerve racking and lasted 6 over hours) now we have a story to tell our grandchildren lol.

I see you've ordered a bunch of stuff. Just remember that you need to check and recharge them at intervals, otherwise they may not be charged up when you need them. I only have a couple of torches and spare batteries in Singapore as the power outages don't happen often enough here - I haven't experienced one since returning in 2013! And since Singapore doesn't have island-wide power cuts (hopefully!), I reckon that if it gets bad, we will just relocate to someone else's place for a while.

I bought from Temasek extra coloured DET30 masks last year, in addition to the free pair.
You can now buy online. The sellers are by no means exhaustive.

I feel that the free Temasek or PA masks should be reserved for lower-income families. The rest of the population who are not hugely affected by CBs should go to any NTUC Unity, Guardian, Watson or medical halls to buy the HSA-approved disposable masks. There are many in the market as compared to one year ago.

We're probably one of the few nanny states in the world that kept giving free masks to citizens. Sometimes I wonder if Ah Gong's being too paternalistic to our citizens. All those free face shields to pre- and primary-school kids were totally wasted.

Japan only gave a pair of reusable masks at the beginning last year. HK distributed once I think. Taiwan gave out fixed quota of disposables but are chargeable. South Korea gave 1 box each pax once last year.



EU standard is EN 14683
In the US, it is ASTM-F2100 LEVEL 3.
