Bukit Panjang easier to ballot in at <1km. Or just ballot the most convenient.

Going to register my son for P1 this year. However, I cant make up my mind on school selection. I’m staying in Sengkang right now and been planning to register him to NCPS (phase 2C). However, my ex spouse suggested St Andrew’s JS as he has church affiliation, therefore we can go for Phase 2B. I’m torn now because there will be travelling if to go to SAJS and I’ve checked the school bus will be picking up at 6am! However, SAJS is affiliated to the secondary school and JC. So, that will be the plus point. As for NCPS, it’s near to my place (within 1km) and the only issue is the risk that I need to take to register him here. Need some advise and thoughts here. TIA

If he’s your only child (or you have no daughters), choose SAJS. School bus 6am pick up is pretty much the norm.

You can choose NCPS if you are prepared to enroll him in North Spring or North Vista. I feel the risks of balloting for NCPS outweigh the potential gains / benefits of getting in NCPS.

SAJS at phase 2B is a very good deal during the past few years.

Up until 2018, phase 2B almost always required balloting for >2km folks.

But in recent years, the school has scrapped its popular PV scheme due to Covid safety measures. So that means only a few church members (and even fewer GRL) will be applying under 2B. Balloting not required at all regardless of distance.

                  A few questions,
Does your son go to church, do you?
Do you prefer a co-Ed or boys school?
Do you speak Chinese with your son?

Very different culture.. in these two schools. Convenience is good, affiliation is also good.. but having a sch culture that’s similar to home is better. Pick the one that best suits ur family.

The answer actually lies in yourself.

Try this experiment out for 1 week consecutively, without any break.

                    Everyday, for one week,
                    from (Monday to Friday);

set your alarm clock to wake up 5.30 am.

Get your son to brush teeth, makan breakfast, bathe, comb his hair, change into school uniform, everything must be done & completed by 5.55 am. Wear socks, wear school shoes, leave home 6 am, because you mentioned that the school bus come and pick up your boy at 6 am ?

Can you (parent) & your son take it, for 1 week ? Your son too young at K2, need parental supervision, to guide him how to carry out this daily routine. So, not only your son need to wake up 5.30 am, but you (as a parent) also have to wake up 5.30 am together with him.
                    Why ?
                    prepare his breakfast !

After this one week trial (experiment), sit back and review. How has your one week trial been, so far ?

Can u take it, this daily routine, for the next 6 years (P1 to P6), come rain or shine, every morning 5.30 am ?

You need to be truthful, can't run, because this is exactly what you will be going through everyday, for the next 6 years ahead.

If your honest answer is Yes, then proceed to register your son into St Andrew Junior primary. Otherwise, if cannot tahan even for so short one week , forget about SAJS.

Another qn you have to ask yourself. Are you working?

Assuming that you are a working mom, Not a housewife,

If everyday u have to wake up 5.30 am, just to prepare breakfast for your son, 2 possible scenario lie before you :-

                    a) Can u go back to catch some sleep before wake up again later, go to work (office)

                    Or

                    b) waking up so early 5.30 am every morning caused u (parent) to lose sleep, and by the time you reach office to work, you kind of feel tired, your mind not alert because not enough sleep ?

Thanks all for the output. High chance I will go for SAJS, considering the "guaranteed" journey throughout secondary school and the school culture. My working time is flexible, so I still can manage on this part. Just that the poor boy will need to wake up early in the morning. Haha

Please reconsider, the journey is not worth the sleep and it's for at least 10 years! Though Secondary school is almost guaranteed, it is not considered the \"top school\", so i think any good secondary around your area will be good. JC though affiliated, you need to be getting very good grades, only -2 points.
I would rather you try ballot NCPS, if failed, any school around your place will be good enough.
