This is what I told my teens when I have decided not to let them take the vaccination.
1.\tThey don’t fall under the vulnerable group which is above 60 years old.
2.\tTaking vaccine does not means you are protected from getting Covid19. So, you are not doing anyone less or more favour by taking the vaccine. And, therefore wearing mask is still necessary.

I have friends that told me if I don’t get vaccinated, he/she won’t want to meet me. So, I can imagine, my teens will probably going to experience similar discussion.
I feel terrible to hear that
Do u still keep in touch with these of friend ?

You forgot to share one more point with them :

Not being vaccinated though means you’re young enuf to sustain a bout of covid but it also means u might unknowingly pass on viruses to friend, neigbors or elderly relatives. Their lives are just as impt as our lives & those with pre-existing conditions & elderlies hv lower immunities to fight covid. Hope this helps add perspective in yr youth’s thought process.

Not according to Assoc Prof Raymond Lin of NCID. Vaccinated still can pass, according to NCID studies of local cases. 🤷 That's what started this conversation.

And I believe I just saw in today’s news, a 12 year old child from Zhangde Primary, despite having taken first dose of Pfizer vaccine, still caught Covid from a family member who’d visited the Bukit Merah market.

So…let your kids take vaccine if U wish. But don’t be under the impression that they won’t catch anything. Or spread anything.

                https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/covid-did-israel-screw-up-not-vaccinating-children-ages-12-15-right-away-672203

In the meantime, this is what is going on in Israel.

So it seems it has boiled down to 1 in 3000 chances of getting serious Covid if a youngster is infected, versus 1 in 6000 of getting heart inflammation from the mrna vaccine. Probably 1 in 3000 if a boy! And 5% chance of the heart inflammation being serious if you get it.

Maybe Assoc Prof David Lye of NCID and Assoc Prof Raymond Lin of NCID should go and duke it out with each other.

Seems to me the answer is actually a no-brainer.

You may be better off without such friends.

Just 2 days ago, WHO gave an update to urge all vaccinated folks to continue wearing masks as Delta variant spreads and vaccination alone won’t stop community infection.

Only after WHO has updated its findings then our “experts” started singing the same tune. 😆

It is common sense isn’t it? From the many local cases we have seen, we have all guessed that covid vaccine does not stop covid transmission. Unfortunately, there are many, especially the westerners who still think otherwise.

The Covid vaccine, is not what we used to understand about traditional vaccine. DH says it looks like a ”PRE-CURE” of covid rather than a vaccine. A vaccinated person still gets infected and can be a carrier just that the symptoms are mild and hopefully the person doesn’t need to be hospitalised.

Yes, I’m aware one can still be covid carrier after being vaccinated & unknowingly. However, with more community vaccinated, it’ll reduce the rampant infection rates with time.

We’ve to protect ourselves fr current known strains, when new strains comes round, our medical system will hv less to juggle with & we hope to reduce burden of severe cases. The benefits outweighs the current risks & impending ones. Can’t imagine when we hv to grabble with known viruses & new and emerging ones; nor do we want to hv to set up tents & overwork our frontliners as we had in 2020 & the sights we see around with our neighboring countries which hv less medical capacity.

Vaccinate & still masks up and maintain social distancing & heightened hygiene coz we’re not out of the woods yet with many not vaccinated/can’t be vaccinated.

Leeyl, what your dh says is what I understand… I m just hoping for less serious condition if so unlucky caught it.

Also, why is wearing mask so difficult leh. Even normal flu also some wear mask in order not to spread it around…and Covid time the more we should continue wear mask isnt it.
