Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Totally agree to your saying about earlier phases. However, these earlier phases are often not within our option, because we are not alumni, no existing sibling, no news from PV, not grassroot member with special priorities. Having said that, the current primary school registration does have many negative feedbacks, and we may hear changes for next year registration for entry in the following year. -

my elder girl is studying at a MK kindergarten. She said she don’t want to go to that affiliated primary school. Would you still put your child to that primary school despite this? Even if this has route has almost 100% certainty that she can go in. Would you ignore her opinion and put her at the most guarantee option and most convenient because it is nearest to the current hse? if look for other nearby schools, then it is like any schools are the same.
Sometimes kids say stuff like they don’t want to go to bed at a certain time, don’t like to eat veggies, don’t like to brush their teeth, don’t like to put away their devices, don’t like to attend Chinese lessons, don’t like certain teachers. Do parents give in to such wishes all the time? -

Don't bet on too many changes for next year's registration, or next next year's, or next next next year's. If they manage to push the number of reserved places for 2B and 2C from 40 to 60, I think that's already an accomplishment.

I could accept your daughter's idea of not wanting to go the school next door, but is it really a case of no schools nearby? For your target school, is it really that exceptional that you have to go through the whole works just for a chance to ballot? Honestly, if you don't want the school next door, there are also several good schools that will guarantee you a place at Phase 2C, especially if you move. -

Don't mean to generalize but children are fickle and change their minds all the time. She could be bored of the current MK environment and hence said she prefers to go elsewhere cos its somewhere new. But if she does get into the target school, she might actually miss the familiarity of the MK environment and miss her friends since I presume most of her friends will enroll in that primary school. The MK carrot is too good to just let go for the hassle involved to move to somewhere for a chance to ballot at Phase 2C.
But if you really don't wanna enroll her in the MK school, perhaps show her websites of other schools within your area that offer much better odds at 2C.

Read someone managed to rent and buy at <1 km from NYPS and got in. Is the distance proximity a strong consideration even if the rest (sibling/alumni/PV) are not favorable? -

In other words, you can rent or buy <1km to get a lucky draw chance. 1 in 4 chance of your ticket being picked. The remaining 75% of applicants will fail & go to next phase 2CS at another school elsewhere that still has vacancies.
