Different schools different requirements and no way of telling what the school wants. Sometimes, the school doesn’t know it themselves.

Not sure how you are submitting your application or how the form might look like but CV could be an option.

Online form these days, and CV is the only option where I can \"express\" what I like to volunteer for. Thanks.

You can attach a brief cover letter to your CV expressing such, if the free text field in the online form is insufficient.

Pre-Covid, schools were open to PVs having direct contact with the kids (Eg. Reading to the less literate ones, etc) but now I believe less contact-intensive tasks like those designing open house examples are the rage.
Thank you. The brief cover letter is a good idea and yes, I also hear parents suggesting that PV will trend towards online activities in view of Covid. I have a few ideas in my mind. 🙂

Hey, really thanks for the advice and even the article. I was just thinking to myself that PV application only provides 5 or 6 volunteer activities but frankly, I'm not quite sure that's what schools need today with Covid and all. Is there a way to highlight what I can best contribute to the students? Do I write it down in my CV and upload it? Other than the CV upload, there doesn't seem to be another option for me to indicate my \"preference\".

Once you have moved into your rental address, you can apply to update your NRIC as you will have the necessary proof that you’re living there legally.

Thank you! The PV application ends by 31 Oct. If I may ask, any idea how long it takes to update the NRIC address and does ICA send a sticker over so that I can paste over before scanning my NRIC for PV application? :?:

Nowadays, it will take abt 7 worling days to receive it sticker.
Thanks! This is helpful. Need to factor in this processing time.

I’m not sure how fast it is under this new online updating system.

If going down to police post is still an option, pick that cos the sticker is given on the spot.
Oh, that's an idea. Thanks!

Hi, I noted this thread was really some years ago but I think it's probably good etiquette to try asking here first before starting a new topic.
My question is about PV. Do I have to stay near my preferred primary school in order to apply for PV or the <1km distance advantage only applies at ballot stage (2c).
I am > 2 km from the preferred school but I can move there to start the 30 months residential address condition upon P1 registration in 2 years' time. However, for PV registration, I think I need to apply before Oct 2021 to clock 80 hours of PV. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I see 40 hours but someone said I got to do 2 years, so that hits me as 80 hours.

This process is really intriguing. As a parent, I find this more shiong than corporate work. Lol.

Thanks in advance for any parent who can advise me on this.

Firstly, PV hours varies from school to school. Some schools require 40 hrs (to be completed in 1 year), others require 80 hrs (to be completed in 2 years). There's a 3rd category of schools that don't PV at all.

With regard to home-distance priority, many popular schools do ballot for SC < 1km in Phase 2B. Therefore, the obvious answer to your question is < 1km applies (in fact, it applies at all stages except Phase 1 as per MOE policy). Given the likely outcome (i.e. balloting for SC < 1km), popular schools are less likely to choose a PV > 1km from the school (let alone > 2km as is your case). I have no idea which is your preferred school but if it's a popular one, especially one that ballots yearly in Phase 2B, I would say < 1km is probably a must-have rather than a good-to-have item before even the school is willing to consider.

That said, there are special situations where a popular school *might* consider you, even if distance is a concern. One such situation is if you have special talents that the school might require, e.g. IT skills, financial literacy skills, etc, for their special projects. Hence, it's always a good idea to highlight these skills in your application form (even if they didn't ask for it. https://www.todayonline.com/big-read/big-read-not-faint-hearted-parents-jump-through-hoops-go-great-guns-secure-pri-1-spots?fbclid=IwAR3CnM3jSiPqxdZXK4-7MZGLINKyy1IF4ppjrYvyvv-OUr-MFdh0Twp62F0 had a good example of a parent who was rejected by a popular school (> 1km too far) and another school, before he called and emailed the latter to appeal, offering his technical expertise to the school (who then accepted his PV application).

      Hi,

If I rent a place near the school, can I update my NRIC residential address to the rental address immediately? If not, my PV application will still be under my old address which is more than 1km away from the school. Any advice or direct experience on this? TIA!

      Hi,

I am not affiliated to FMP in any way and from the exchanges on the forum here and there, it seems to be a good school. Is there any parent whom I can connect to to understand the recent situation of FMP? I do live within 1 km of FMP but given that I am not an alumnus, or community leader etc, I guess this puts me at phase 2C?

      There’s an affiliated primary:
      https://stmargaretspri.moe.edu.sg/

I mean the one near Nanyang Pri School. Cos was thinking they were talking about missing out on Nanyang so means she stay near Nanyang thus the one nearby.

St.Margarets usually has space in 2CS as well, and its not too far from that general area
otherwise catchment schools are usually BTPS and FPPS
Recently, I heard of BTPS from another parent. On closer look, it seems pretty decent. Any parent have direct experience to share? I like that it is co-ed and if my kids can study well (lol), maybe HCI can be the way to go later as I probably going to invest in living in that Bt Timah area.
