Apparently, that’s what they state now. Remember, the efficacy of the vaccine is measured in terms of symptomatic conditions.
It is very different findings. The only consistent is the effectiveness against severe infection.lee_yl\" post_id=\"2029697\" time=\"1625716977\" user_id=\"17023:
I am bemused that just 2 days after Israel reported that the efficacy of Pfizer vaccine dropped from 95% to 64%, Singapore also revealed almost similar findings, that the efficacy for Pfizer vaccine in Sg dropped from 95% to 69%!
Now I am curious whether our govt all along knew the efficacy is around 69%? But need someone else to report before doing so?
I remembered our Health Minister kept saying that Pfizer vaccine efficacy is like 88% against Delta variant. Back then, looking at our cases involving fully vaccinated persons in the Mindsville, Bukit Merah clusters etc, the figures don’t really tally!!

Israel's finding (from TimesofIsrael):
Effectiveness against infection: Not stated.
Effectiveness against \"symptomatic infection\": 64%
Effectiveness against severe infection: 93%
Singapore findings (from Channelnewsasia):
Effectiveness against infection: 69%
Effectiveness against \"symptomatic infection\": Between 80% and 90%.
Effectiveness against severe infection: 93%

As for 93% effectiveness against severe infection, which is pretty consistent, no wonder my DH kept saying we should view Covid-vaccine as a “pre-cure” instead of what we understand as a conventional vaccine. -
Now there is new variant of interest. Lambda. :gloomy:

Non-mRNA (Sinovac, Sinopharm and Novavac),
which one better ? -
I would think Novavax has the best clinical testing results among the non-mRNA vaccines.
As for Sinovac and Sinopharm, their clinical data still missing. One can read up more about their actual performance in Indonesia and decide for themselves. But one thing good about Sinovac is that, vast majority of those who have taken the vaccine here, experience no (or v mild) side effects. -

Yes, Dr Leong HN mentioned it during a recent TV interview.
Now there is new variant of interest. Lambda. :gloomy:
I wonder when the first case here will be reported. -

The AFP report (repub by CNA) carries a more complete picture compared to the CGTN report. CGTN has been banned in the UK.

Very important missing data:
\"But results from CoronaVac phase 3 trials in Turkey - that did not take variants into account - published on Friday in the Lancet found two doses of the vaccine had an efficacy of 83.5 per cent in protecting against symptomatic infections.\"
The study was from 14 Sep 20 - 5 Jan 21, so let's take a look at the variants in Turkey over that period.
https://postimg.cc/K1y2MS0v
There's no Delta during Sinovac's period of study in Turkey as tracked by GISAID.
https://postimg.cc/wtryHjkj
There're no VOIs such as B1617.1 and B1617.3 (weaker cousins of Delta) detected in Turkey either.
https://postimg.cc/tYf4YMxB
But here in Singapore, we have a lot of DELTAs from late Mar-Jun, which NCID didn't cover.

Do you need to visit 光明山 or attend mass in Catholic churches? They have required their Sinovac-injected members to do PET prior to visiting or attending mass. If Sinopharm ever comes in via SAR, I reckon it's gonna be the same treatment.

On both CoronaVac and SinoPharm, read the latest report by CNBC. It's quite fair as it singles out the UK (BNT/Moderna/AZ) too.

Or look at my https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=95466&p=2029567&hilit=sinopharm#p2029567 compiled by a Chi prof based in EU.
If you can wait till year-end, then of course take Novavax which has been put up for EUA by the FDA for 18 years & above. But there are of course https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=95466&p=2029611&hilit=Novavax#p2029611 that I shared earlier. So far, 7 countries have approved Novavax for EUA/Trials.
Won't matter if you and family don't travel much, or do not foresee yourself/your child to go to EU/US/UK/Oz/NZ/Can/Jap/Kor for further studies in 1 year's time.
Most of the developed nations that our DC are likely to go for further education are NOT using Chinese vaccines. EU has only approved Pfizer/BNT Comirnaty, Moderna, AZ Vaxzevria and J&J.
To play safe, I've asked my Sinophile-seniors in my large clan to take Pfizer becos HK, Macao and China have this brand and Fosun's invested heavily in it, so PRC can't ''block'' them in the worst case scenario. To date, 91 countries have EUA'd Pfizer-BNT Cominarty, and 54 countries for Moderna. -
SG's exclusion of Sinovac from our national tally has been widely reported by China and HK media. HK is watching us as slightly less than half of their vaccinated population had taken CoronaVac.
Maybe Iswaran can let them know if HKers and SCs/PRs who've taken CoronaVac in HK/Macao/China can enter the ''SG-HK travel corridor'' in future?

Surprisingly, Global Times is rather understanding this time.

Some Western media including Reuters on Wednesday underlined the differentiation to Singaporean residents with the Sinovac jab in terms of local vaccination perks such as testing exemptions, quoting Singaporean Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, implying that the Singaporean government is discriminatory against recipients with Chinese vaccines.
Each country has its own protocols and standards for overseas approval. To be included in a government's national immunization program, Chinese enterprises have to complete the entire application and approval process, Feng Duojia, president of the China Vaccine Industry Association, told the Global Times on Sunday.
China's venerable pandemic tzar, Prof Zhong Nanshan said, \"中国(疫苗研发)非常困难,我们没有办法在中国做第三期临床试验,为什么?没有病人。所以全部都在国外做。”
