Nicely written piece of article.

      https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-07-21/as-singapore-reenters-phase-two-we-re-losing-sight-of-the-data-that-matters

My hubby really thinks it was a missed opportunity, for S’pore to show what exactly is endemic Covid and how to manage it, for OYK to show his steely leadership and his ability to think unconventionally, and for us to show how we adapt and cope to lead our lives as per normal in the face of Covid.

      A pity.

As the MTF consists of a group of ministers/decision makers, too bad we won’t be able to know whether OYK lacks the guts to carry out his ideas or he’s unable to convince the rest to support his idea and got voted down. It can be quite damaging to OYK’s political credibility because he can talk but can’t execute.

      Quoted from the article:
In a virtual press conference Tuesday, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said the government would be confident it can open up and stay safe with 100 to 200 new cases daily once its vaccination target is met. Even if we’re not there yet, Singapore could have used this opportunity to start implementing its new data framework. Why blink now?

It is challenging not to be alarmed by the high numbers of new cases daily.

I feel disturbed despite telling myself to focus on the number of serious cases in hospitals/ICUs.

The numbers are anticipated to be high and will need to be read in context.

Maybe take a break from the news for a couple of days or weeks if it leaves you disturbed.

Being vaccinated and strictly following the safety measures should be quite safe.
Agree. With the daily 3-digit numbers, it’s best to be in safe side & cooperate with advisory. Ministers are not the subject-matter person but takes lead & advices from different subject-matter experts not just fr MOH, scientists, WHO & how different variants of viruses move & spread. Even with testing & narrowing down to Delta variant that was suspected similar to those fr Indonesia, they can’t tell for sure bcoz of low load count. Once community spread & at such high rates, it’s not a question of high number having vaccinated but we’ve got many vulnerable in our midst who are not just those elderly but those with pre-existing conditions & who cannot take vaccines for specific reasons but are able-bodied adults who may hv to care for young ones & cld also be working in the frontline. Continuous high numbers will also be burdening our medical resources & tracing effort if left unchecked & uncontrolled. Not forgetting too that our earlier vaccine are not 95% effective against the Delta variant. We’re all still vulnerable to exposure & infection. Let’s be united & patient.

At this point in time, many countries are doing ano lockdown after having gone thro opening & locking-down many times, ranging fr M’sia, Indonesia, Australia, to Belgium, Thailand, Vietnam and so many more.

Our elderly might be concern not just abt the physical pain & aftermath of vaccination but possibly the burden & stress they might think it imposes on their families. Some are also left quite alone to manage on their own. Hope the RCs & MPs go more to the ground to befriend & encourage them to vaccinate.

M’time keep safe & protect yr family of elderlies & kids. Stay united.

OYK is just looking out for those unvaccinated persons.

How can he 敢敢来 to demo to the world how living with C19 is like, when some of you & DC don’t even want to receive 2 shots to support him?

You need 2/3 to go endemic. 1/2 is not enough. Go read his latest FB post.

I can tell you the KTV cluster may also have some hidden cases, because many foreign ‘‘patrons’’ do hold a legit daytime WP job in other sectors, or are students of pte institutions.

OKY is worried for those unvaccinated seniors not the teens.

I don’t think the vaccination rate for old folks will go up further (maybe another 5-10% more?) cos some old folks either can’t be vaccinated or just don’t want to.

Let say if we are 2/3 fully vaccinated, there will still be a sizable population of old folks who remain unvaccinated. So do we blindly believe in ‘herd immunity’ or ‘open close open close’ again when a new cluster emerges again next month (e.g. Pasir Panjang vege wholesale + many markets)? In reality, this will keep recurring due to the emergence of new variants and humans’ inability to stay vigilant.

TBH, no dining-in actually forces me to stay at home more, which is good lah. 😆 But not good for our economy. A lot of small businesses (F&Bs, malls, taxi drivers etc) will suffer….

Friends (french), who live in the south-western Aquitaine region, will not be vaccinated - they do not trust Macron, and do not have confidence in the vaccines (mRNA, vector), but support safe distancing measures

Maybe our Govt should pressurize our elderly e.g. if anybody is not vaccinated and then they are hospitalised because of covid, then they have to pay their own hospitalisation bill. No subsidy.

My opinion is this is just OYK's excuse for his failure to even follow through his own plan.

On 16 Jul 2021, OYK said the key indicator of further tightening is not the case number, but the number of people requiring ICU care. When he announced a new PH2A on 19 Jul 2021, the number of ICU case remains at 1 (no change). As of yesterday, the number of ICU case is still 1. And if you look at MOH's data for infected persons 60 years old and above who are unvaccinated or vaccinated with one shot, there are only 32 persons (22 unvaccinated and 10 vaccinated with one shot). Even if we assume 100% of them go ICU (statistically impossible scenario), that is still way below threshold possible to overwhelm our 1,000 ICUs bed capacity.

We really need someone with a steady hand and self-confidence to be in charge.

The two letters are worded very differently although both letters were dated yesterday and the students were last in school on Friday 16 July.
Wonder if there has just been another change in the policy of contact tracing and isolating for cases affecting students if it is determined that transmission most likely occurred in the same household and not in the school itself.

Quote from Zhenghua Primary School's letter :
\"In consultation with MOE and MOH, no students or staff need to be placed on Leave of Absence or Quarantine Order and all school activities will continue as scheduled.\"
(Note : The Zhenghua Pri student was well when in school)

The biggest cluster is from the Fishery Port. The increase in numbers ricolet & it’ll burden the frontliners as we can see how traces HC been found in 4 blocks of Sims Ave resulting in manpower being activated to put notices to every residents in the 4 blocks & visits to every unit to these 4 blocks. Not going back to HA2 phase May result in numbers going higher. This is not the time for any MTF to recommend any lax stance nor any minister to toy with for political scores. Bite the bullet & curb the spread. Delta may not be as deadly to send ppl to ICU but it’ll nevertheless cause damages to the health of any unfortunate victim, young or old. Let’s be patient.

On the side, just thinking of UK high vaccination rates of elderly if it’s gotta do with how swiftly the Royal family reacted to ‘seclude’ themselves in their castles & getting themselves vaccinated. Afterall, they’re the figurehead of the country. If LKY or wife still around & the media shows them getting their vaccination, wld our elderly vaccination numbers go up?

I know elderly can get very stubborn even if u threatened them. I know my late mum wld hv rebelled even when I reasoned for her to treat herself to good purchases of more expensive unrottened food, she wld fight back that even if she fall sick she won’t go pay for medical & can still save. How to fight the stubborness but to coerce & sweet talk? Tough! Just recalling the fight with my late mum & FIL alr sends me the cringe. Fortunately, MIL is very different & super cooperative. She was eagerly waiting for her 1st jab & when didn’t get any after-shot effects till 2nd jab, she’ll still jive abt loosing the 2nd battle with fever after 2nd jab but declared joyously she won the battle on 2nd day when the fever subsided. We love her to bits as she’s the precious treasure of our family now.
