The numbers for Day 2 are out -
Btw regrading all this bashing of RGPS…everyone is entitled to their opinion and it doesn’t matter if they don’t understand the appeal of RGPS. Imagine how bad it is if RGPS appeals to everyone? Ha ha Then it will be so difficult to get in. Not everyone likes the same thing. Just like how there are some people who just wants to go to the nearest school whereas some will like to go to those traditional elite schools. And they are also some who happens to stay within 1KM of RGPS and as such the school appeals to them as being both the nearest and one of the traditional elite schools.
Ultimately regardless of what school your child goes to, parents involvement, support from schools, enrichment class, tuition, school environment, peer pressure/support play a part. It doesn’t mean if the child get into Nanyang Primary or any other traditional elite schools they will definitely do well. So many thing play a part. I’m sure all of us understand that not just getting into a so called elite schools and then just throw your child to the school is expect him/her to do well. Parents play a very important part too. And this is for all schools.
So I agree I don’t understand the bashing of RGPS as regardless what schools it is, parents involvement and additional tuition and enrichment is required if necessary. It’s not a problem for RGPS only, it’s for all schools. In fact it’s not a problem actually, it’s a matter of fact. But that depends on individual preference and opinion as well. Some people think just pass will do. So want their kids to excel so it all depends. -

Hapeepz, I have posted in RGPS thread before. Don't get why you think it is out of the blue. It only appears targeted at RGPS only because it is on this thread but in my comments earlier I also said it is the same in Rulang and Taonan and any other non-affiliated schools. My original post just said I don't get the appeal of RGPS (which is my personal opinion) because at least Rulang and Taonan are co-ed school so if more people fighting for it makes sense but RGPS is only girls school. Then it got distorted into something else.
I also did not say if you are not hands on, better don't send. I said some love it but some don't.
Although RGPS is a girls school, so is CHIJ St Nicks, Singapore Chinese Girls Schools, MGS...
So what is the appeal of these 2 even more highly subscribed school? -
Actually I always thought/heard kiasu parents was a very active forum. Now when it’s my turn, I realise it’s quite quiet. Not sure how many crazed parents come in to read etc. Probably the silent majority just apply and don’t bother about the noise.

And not just any affiliation.
But affiliation to some of the top tier secondary schools. -

Understand that affiliation is an important criteria to some or maybe to a lot of people.

My spouse was also telling me RGPS no affiliation but NYPS has. But I was in the opinion that to get into NHS using affiliation still need 251, and if our daughter get 251 in RGPS I will be happy enough as can get into most top secondary schools. And for boys at NYPS there's no affiliation? But it's still such a popular and overly subscribed school. -

For some people, there's always a lingering 'what if'.
If the kid scores 251, it will not get her into MGS, NYGH, SCGS or SNGS if she is coming from RGPS. However, 251 will definitely get her into the schools above if she is coming from their respective affiliated primary schools. In a placement exercise like the PSLE, a single pt can make a huge difference in whether you will meet the cutoff point or not. Hence, it is not unreasonable for people to want to maximise whatever advantage they can get, even if it's for a mere 5 points.
NYPS reputation and appeal came from it's past, verifiable records of >45% scoring 250 & above. Some people think it's a BFD knowing that once you get accepted, you have a 50% chance of scoring 250 & above. So, what's not to like? -

Can y’all imagine if RGPS is affiliated to RGS, how crazy popular it’ll become.
Actually, RGPS is the “easiest” brand sch to enter, partly also has its location to thank.
NYPS at least has the d’leedon effect, almost 2k units there, many to rent or buy.
For RGPS, considering price, within 1km want to rent a proper size own stay unit also hard to come by, That’s why People got time to debate here whether the school good or not good.
Move RGPS to a new estate like punggol, or even AMK like st nicks, spaces all snatch up alrdy, doubt still got time to debate haha.
I look at my friend who is so happy her son got into Rosyth, the lack of affiliation never crossed her mind, then looking at the topics here.. shrug shoulder
