Watten, shelford road, and across the road at duchess. Mainly these areas r the overlap, 1km from both raffles n Nanyang.

Last few hours before closing. chatgroups say raffles not revealing numbers. Some other schools general office are revealing if asked, not numbers specifically, but will inform within which distance balloting.

You don't want to disclose numbers, never mind.

But basic minimum, must inform parents which distance bracket entering into balloting, so that if certain group of 2C SCs students no chance to ballot at all, after 3 pm, they should quickly make their way down to (St Margaret or Marymount or some CHIJ schools still left with vacancies) primary in time, to secure a last slot in P2C without balloting, instead of wasting away their precious, golden 2C chance

Yep agree,
If have to ballot, then make their own informed choice, but at least let the people outside the distance radius know they don’t even stand a chance to ballot, don’t waste that precious 2C chance

can name which roads / condo / flats / landed in Singapore, are both concurrently within 1 km distance,
from (Nanyang & Raffles Girls) primary ?

If fierce intense competition happen over at NYPS, because of the presence of boys there enrolling into NYPS, then after lunch this afternoon, there will be spill-over effect, parents with daughters may switch camp, drop NYPS, try their chances at RGPS

Understand that affiliation is an important criteria to some or maybe to a lot of people.
My spouse was also telling me RGPS no affiliation but NYPS has. But I was in the opinion that to get into NHS using affiliation still need 251, and if our daughter get 251 in RGPS I will be happy enough as can get into most top secondary schools. And for boys at NYPS there's no affiliation? But it's still such a popular and overly subscribed school.

As long as you are happy and satisfied, that should be good enough.

For some people, there's always a lingering 'what if'.
If the kid scores 251, it will not get her into MGS, NYGH, SCGS or SNGS if she is coming from RGPS. However, 251 will definitely get her into the schools above if she is coming from their respective affiliated primary schools. In a placement exercise like the PSLE, a single pt can make a huge difference in whether you will meet the cutoff point or not. Hence, it is not unreasonable for people to want to maximise whatever advantage they can get, even if it's for a mere 5 points.

NYPS reputation and appeal came from it's past, verifiable records of >45% scoring 250 & above. Some people think it's a BFD knowing that once you get accepted, you have a 50% chance of scoring 250 & above. So, what's not to like?

Actually both me and my wife 1st choice is NYPS too. I also thought the same way that if you got NYPS you got 50% chance of getting above 250. But having say that I read someone saying RGPS was having around 40% above 250 but was shot down saying it includes GEP students, likewise for NYPS? We also do not have data on NYPS main stream students results? I'm lucky enough to be within 1KM of both NYPS and RGPS. However looking at the odds between both, and not having good backup 2CS schools we fall back on I feel that RGPS will be a greater choice. Though my wife is still contemplating whether to apply for GRPS or NYPS.
My thoughts too..
“ verifiable records of >45% scoring 250 & above… once you get accepted, you have a 50% chance of scoring 250 & above ”
conveniently equates to 50% of a child scoring 250 , no mention of accounting for GEP cohort but when the same is said about RGPS, u can no longer equate it the same manner.

As a parent who is considering RGPS/NYPS I came here hoping to see constructive views, can’t help but seemingly a couple of people here whose views seem very skew..

Affiliation.
And not just any affiliation.
But affiliation to some of the top tier secondary schools.

Can y’all imagine if RGPS is affiliated to RGS, how crazy popular it’ll become.

Actually, RGPS is the “easiest” brand sch to enter, partly also has its location to thank.
NYPS at least has the d’leedon effect, almost 2k units there, many to rent or buy.
For RGPS, considering price, within 1km want to rent a proper size own stay unit also hard to come by, That’s why People got time to debate here whether the school good or not good.

Move RGPS to a new estate like punggol, or even AMK like st nicks, spaces all snatch up alrdy, doubt still got time to debate haha.
I look at my friend who is so happy her son got into Rosyth, the lack of affiliation never crossed her mind, then looking at the topics here.. shrug shoulder

Perhaps it is your own DD who didn't do well at RGPS and you are spitefully trying to discredit the school with all sorts of falsehood and wild allegations. And I notice you have been on it for quite many years, always picking on RGPS using the same my niece excuses.

Ahh on the contrary NO! My niece did extremely well. I won't be replying you specifically anymore because this is not a fruitful or polite discussion. Not going to give my time to people like you. My discrediting the school with falsehood? Who are you to say what is false? What a joke. You obviously need some help in reading comprehension. Take your attitude elsewhere if you need to vent. :siam:

I noticed you have been at this for a number of years and every time you are singing the same song about your niece, and RGPS and teachers doing nothing for their students and it is the parents who send this child to expensive tuition that deliver the results for the school etc.

Obviously, these are all falsehood and wild allegations and that's why you are struggling to support your claims. (You cant even name 1 primary school in Singapore for comparison)

You should consider taking your toxic and spiteful falsehood elsewhere and stop discrediting the school or teacher for your personal amusement and self interest.
Heya Don’t let this person affect you la quite interesting for someone to suddenly jump into this thread, to monitor this thread so closely and replying all messages, considering how much this school is of no appeal to her. Anyway it’s all sweeping statements and hearsays So don’t take them so seriously.

She say all the kids and kids parents say the school no good, Let’s not forget all kids learn differently, all parents opinions r subjective. Results is objective..
if unfair because there’s GEP students, then do GEP vs GEP comparison.
Is their results good really because it’s all the parents effort? If yes- kudos to these parents. But are you really so naive as to think these group of parents r only from RGPS?

NYPS across the road, it’s the same. And if you think this happens only because they r non-affiliated schools, let’s take the other 2 affiliated schools along the same stretch: MGS and SCGS:
MGS is good for their gymnastics, their girls go for gymnastics at very expensive Russian owned studios. SCGS for their dance, and many other enrichments outside of schools. parents who pump these much money into enrichments won’t pump into academic tuitions?
Actually this “expensive tuitions” happen all across SG.. as long as the parents have the time n money to do so, Even in neighbourhood schools.

@manorway say if you r not hands on u better don’t send to RGPS .. why cannot? Jus don’t succumb to the parent peer pressure lo.
If u don’t like this kind of rat race, if cannot shut yourself out , better just stay out of all the schools along this whole stretch of road.
These schools are all the “big ponds”.
If you want your child to be THE big fish in a small pond, go for less popular school higher chance.

I’ve always been that silent reader. But I just feel above posts by her are very targeted at RGPS only. Wonder why, all out of the blue somemore.
Sure hope it’s not some kind of mind game, at least not at this stressful time when phase 2c parents are monitoring the thread for registration purpose.

*edited to remove mention of Math Olympiad in neighbourhood sch, someone PM to say that may add stress.

The thing about heavily tutored + good results vs heavily tutored + not so good results, has little to do with the school. It would be the tuition centers that they go to.

Spot on!! And even amongst those who go to same tuition centres, the biggest factor that can explain the results is having hands on parents who know how to teach.

A lot of RGPS kids have expensive tuition from Primary 1 or even earlier + hands on parents. Teachers in RGPS expect parents to do a lot of work.

If your point that RGPS produce good results, and all credits should go to tuition centres and parents,
it will not only be RGPS, it’ll be all the schools in this estate, since the kids in this area will all Likly go to the same or similarly expensive tuitions, the parents may all be of similar mindset and level of hands-on, families are probably about similar socio economic status etc etc.
It’s well know many RGPS girls are exposed to many Outside activities, programme to build other areas of talents.. across the roads at nanyang it’s the same.. a boy from there goes for private track n field training, another goes for water polo. I doubt it’s any different over at ACS , even with their affiliation safety net.

If parents do not want to join in this rat race, either be v discipline not to be affected n stress by it, or jus stay out of the schools in this estate altogether.

Oops sorry, misread. Its by tonight 11pm....

Oh ok no worries. But actually although I will like to if MOE does updates on Day 3 the final numbers but then again without breakdown sometimes the number means nothing as well. Of course for some situation it might but for some might not. I mean say for RGPS, we know there's 97 places available. So if on Day 3, MOE update total number 1) 150, 2) 176, 3) 200. Does it mean much? Maybe if it's 150, I have a bit of feel good factor cos it's less than last year but without knowing the breakdown it doesn't mean anything as in what if all 150 with 1KM? If it's 176 then it's same as last year and if it's 200 more than last year and if it's more than last year I may be more nervous but what if only 80 within 1KM?

So ultimately without breakdown not really meaningful but I get it we will like to have as much info as we can likewise for me.

Actually you can agar agar guess your chances. Taking this year's 97 spaces as an example and then looking at the residential demographics of the area within 1km of the school, you would be able to more or less guesstimate your 2C chances. If you stay within 1km of RGPS then based on the surrounding residential areas, I really don't expect that it will be 97 girls (as last year was at least 77 girls but this year increased spaces by 20 to 97), and even if really exceed 97 girls and become say 110 etc, the chances of balloting success is still relatively good all things considered (of cos better have back up 2CS plan haha).
Ya last year was probably a shocker to many parents, how there can be at least 77,78 girls within 1km, considering how Low density the 1km radius is.

Actually I really don't get the appeal of RGPS. There is no affiliation and just a girls school. Being a GEP centre does not increase one's chance of being in GEP. In RGPS, most girls are heavily tutored and go enrichment centres. So we cannot say the sterling results is due to the school's effective teaching too.
R u one of those Staying beyond 1km and trying to discourage others to apply so u have a high chance of getting in? *eye u suspiciously*
Jus kidding, don’t be offended.

Anyway not all parents are after the affiliation status. Maybe kids tend to be alittle more hardworking knowing it’s merit based, and that mentality rubs off onto their classmates ?
Tell the parents at Rulang, aitong, Tao Nan, rosyth, Henry park.. or the boys at Nanyang pri !! Tell these parents that their pri school has no appeal because there’s no affiliation. *death stare

Let u in on a little secret.. actually many many many manyyyy kids now r heavily tutored, not just in RGPS.
Since U already said RGPS produce sterling results.. if u let me choose
1. a school with heavily tutored kids and can produce sterling results

Versus

2. A school with heavily tutored kids but doesn’t produce sterling results

I’d go for #1.

No offence to u, to each his own.

Tbh based on what I observe, balloting in 1km will probably be the norm in years ahead. Look at 2019, 123 seats 6 outside 2km. Means 1km could easily be a 100. There was a theory about new citizens and I think that’s probably very likely the cause of the new norm. If you work in mnc or bank it’s very apparent. Last time it’s all done in a day. Now online takes weeks. Shouldn’t technology be an enabler? Rather know and move on. This slow burn is unwarranted.
It might be true about the new citizens.
If you come across their forum about schools, it’s quite apparent NYPS and RGPS are their top 2 choices, or best schools in their opinion. They not concern at all for other schs nearby like SCGS or MGS for the affiliation like many local parents do.
Actually this dillemma seems extra obvious in this region of SG. Don’t see the affiliation being a concern for parents gunning after Tao nan ?
Anyway, Not many properties nearby RGPS to begin with, and Rental and prices of nearby properties also expensive, but not deterring them fighting for a space..

81 out of 97 spaces filled for today! Don’t know how many parents are doing the wait n see approach to apply on the last day. So uncertain compared to the live updates back then before covid.
