My impression of Montfort (Secondary) is the boys are not well-behaved. I don’t know about Montfort Junior. There was an article some time back about their Lego room (https://montfortjunior.moe.edu.sg/qql/slot/u527/Events/2017/ST%20article_29May.pdf) which I thought would be super fun for the boys. My BIL said he didnt have an enjoyable school life there back in his days, and chose to enrol my nephew into a neighborhood school in Sengkang instead.
Just wondering why is montfort or st Stephen not as popular as other regular schools? I thought these schools at least have quite good brandname and affiliation? Esp st Stephen very popular with expats, its like studying in intl school?

34 schools already have more applicants as of day 2 now than day 3 of last year .
Northland and Sout view already 6.6 times.
St hilda and Nan hua more than 5 times
Rostyh and Rulang more than 4 times
and 9 other schools more than 3 times.
Canberra has a surge in application. The vacancy number encouraged more to try for it.

As per zac's mum comment, Montfort Secondary doesn't have the best reputation in that part of town. By association, Montfort Primary suffers lor. The affiliation is probably one that very parents would want to utilise. Besides, if you are within 1km of the school, depending on whether you are on the east or west (or north or south), you have Holy Innocents' or Hougang Primary School as alternative options. Both schools probably have better local brandname (and in the case of HIPS, a SAP school).

Not sure about St. Stephen but Opera Estate in the same neighbourhood is probably more popular with expats. -
In any case. Good luck to all. It’s the last day today for Phase 2C and for some the wait is over soon.
Unfortunately for some the wait carries on into Phase 2CS or even beyond.
Ultimately please remember not getting into the school of choice is not the end of the world.
Our education system is sound and there are no bad schools. We may rightly or wrongly think that some schools are better but ultimately it really depends on the child and parents as well.
I do have:
1) Nephews and nieces from Rosyth who scored 22x
2) Wife’s ex-colleague’s daughter from NYPS who scored 21x (after a lot of tuition)
3) Wife’s nieces from neighborhood school and all 3 scored above 250.
So just remember, we tried our best for the school of choice and if we didn’t get it, it’s not the end of the world. Life moves on and cheer up! -
I’d like to say that the kids usually don’t even care which school they get into (unless they have been brainwashed by their parents).
I’ve seen kids from neighborhood schools who are happy where they are & enjoying their primary school life. Sometimes they do ask each other (at gatherings and social events) which school they’re studying in, out of curiosity. They have no clue which schools are elite and which are not. The response (to any answer) I most often hear is: “Oh, cool! Is your form teacher nice?” -

Short term memories with long term prejudices. It is hard to shake off the word of mouth reputations by parents who only have time to consider what they know. In the end it is the risk adverse in parents who aim for the usual suspects. Even if I spill it all here who will believe ! Only the parents who do their homework I guess.
