Raffles Girls' Primary
-
Firstly, there are indeed many RGPS girls who got into GEP. I remembered like HALF of the gep cohort for my DD2’s batch was made up of RGPS girls!!! I believe likewise for gep centres like Nanyang Pri. Don’t ask me how the schools did it.
BUT, if one were to separate the results of gep and mainstream students, the overall psle results of RGPS mainstream is somewhat similar to SCGS and MGS.
I recall when I went to the school to collect my DD2’s psle result slips, I overheard the conversation of two fathers. They were surprised to know that their daughters were from the same primary school. When both asked each other what results their daughters got, both answered 23X, and their conversation stopped there.
>45% of the cohort scoring abv 250 includes GEP.
23X seems like the mean for mainstream? So if the student in RGPS is just very average, then they will appreciate the advantages of pri schs with affiliation to good sec sch. That is why quite a handful of rgps parents subsequently seek to transfer their daughters out of rgps into schools like MGS/SCGS/SN/St Mag etc before psle.
Again, in the first place, it is easier to get into RGPS than SCGS/MGS Pri if one stays around Bukit Timah. -
End of the day getting into top schools does not mean great PSLE results.
It all depends on a combination of things, the child, the parents and the school. It needs all the 3 ingredients.
My spouse ex-colleague’s daughter is from NYPS got 21x for PSLE (apparently already went for a lot of tuition) and ended up in Queenstown Sec Sch, and my nieces and nephews went Rosyth but only got 22x and 231. Whereas my wife’s nieces went to a neighborhood school but all 3 got above 250.
So it really depends a lot on the child and parents. Can’t just depend on school alone regardless if it’s top schools or so called neighborhood schools. -
Likewise I also know quite a number of students scored 23+ or even 22+ for psle from nyps.
The fact is, whether a child performs well for psle depends on a lot of factors : how involved parents are in their studies, what kind of additional support (ie tuition/enrichment), the personality and ability of the kid (some are willing to work very very hard while some have their parents tearing their hair trying to get their kids concentrating on work for more than 20min). Both are good schools and both do offer many opportunities for kids to stretch themselves in many ways. But the caveat is, in a competitive school like rgps or nyps, the opportunities are usually not given to average kids. -
Called the school. Getting more opaque. Understand moe won’t even disclose which phase is balloting by 12. Just one sms on 17th. So as good as just wait another 2weeks. Geez quite speechless
-
In any case. Good luck to all. It’s the last day today for Phase 2C and for some the wait is over soon.
Unfortunately for some the wait carries on into Phase 2CS or even beyond.
Ultimately please remember not getting into the school of choice is not the end of the world.
Our education system is sound and there are no bad schools. We may rightly or wrongly think that some schools are better but ultimately it really depends on the child and parents as well.
I do have:
1) Nephews and nieces from Rosyth who scored 22x
2) Wife’s ex-colleague’s daughter from NYPS who scored 21x (after a lot of tuition)
3) Wife’s nieces from neighborhood school and all 3 scored above 250.
So just remember, we tried our best for the school of choice and if we didn’t get it, it’s not the end of the world. Life moves on and cheer up! -

Averaging 1 to 2 per class from P3 cohort will get into GEP (total around 14 to 15 students). Some may not remain in RGPS, as NYPS is just across the road. How do the school manage it? It certainly has to do with natural gifts and parenting. Smarter and more educated parents will have a high tenancy of producing smart off springs and of course, parents with more resources may also send their children to GEP enrichment. (not just limited to RGPS parents, many other parents does that as well)

RGPS has got around 270 mainstream + 2 GEP classes of around 20-25 students I think. So in total, the P6 cohort should have around 310-320 students. Assuming 50% score 250+ that will be around 160 students (inclusive of GEP). If we exclude those new addition GEP students from other schools (assuming 50-15 = 35) that will be 125 students. (ie, assuming ALL GEP students score above 250 - which may not be the case)
If 125 students out of 270 scores above 250, then it is still a decent 46%. -

was from which year ?
PSLE 2018 (born 2006) or PSLE 2017 (born 2005) ?
For your DD2 batch,
If strip away those 2 GEP classes portion (Rgps GEP classes P6P and P6Q), leaving behind just the P6 Mainstream students alone, was the average (mean) Tscore, 23x ?
If is 23x, then is similar to MGS (Mainstream) -

So what did you ask the school and what did they say?

So far based on last year and also previous phase this year (up to Phase 2B), MOE does not update the numbers on the last day of each phase. On the 2nd last day of the phase, they will give a date if which they will update again. And in that update, they will provide the final numbers including the balloting status. The results of the ballot will come few days later. For example for Phase 2B, MOE announced the final numbers including the balloting status on 29 July. But the results of the ballot was only out on 2 Aug as earlier announced.
For Phase 2C they will update on 12 Aug and this will include the balloting status. The balloting results on only be out on 17 Aug via SMS. -

Why don’t you ask the school directly for the >45% rgps cohort scoring abv 250, whether the figure includes the geppers.

Actually for SCGS Pri, its results comparable to MGS Pri, also around 23X. I saw the statistics in SCGS school magazines which the school used to print annually before MOE decided to stop schools from disclosing such statistics.
