Hi. My daughter attended the LA interview a couple of weeks back. She had a panel interview first. There were three other prospective students with her during the panel interview and there were three interviewers. All students were from different schools, all on Zoom. The students were from different domains and interviewers did not ask any domain related questions. The panel interview was mainly to see how they respond I think. For example questions were like 'What colour do you think represents you?' , 'What do you like about school, what do you dislike?', 'Are you a prefect? What is interesting about it?' things like this. They ask each question and go around all students. It was 30 mins. About 4-5 questions, that's it.

The LA audition was also 30 mins. They first asked her to talk about her favourite books and authors, why she likes them, then they asked her about her motivation for one of the pieces in her portfolio. The writing assignment was based on another piece in her portfolio. There wasn't enough time to complete it, but they asked her to do what was possible in the time she had.

On the whole, my daughter had a good time. She also had a Theatre interview, was selected for both streams, and she was happy with what she did.

For the theatre and LA, there was only one panel interview, I described it in the earlier post. For the theatre audition, they first asked her questions about her interest in theatre, any theatre productions that she has watched, what she liked about acting in and watching plays. They she had to act out the monologue that she practiced. They then asked her to act it out without dialogues and also act out as one of the other people in the monologue. That's all. She enjoyed herself. Hope your kid does well too! Best wishes!

May I know whether the IB program offered at SOTA limits the chances of going to local university example medicine/ psychology due to subject combination?

I do understand that the students who chose to go SOTA usually have decided to explore in the field of arts.

Also, is local University giving the same level of recognition to IB and A Level since IB is relatively new compared to A level here.

> In terms of recognition to IBDP, it's already well accepted at local university. SOTA isn't the only school offering IB, the other prominent schools offering IB are ACSI, SJI and MGS.

> IBDP at SOTA does not limit the chances of going to local university, nor will it limit your chance at medicine / psychology... however...

According to NUS:

Notwithstanding, anecdotal evidence suggests that to be accepted, IB students will need a score of 38 and above. For more competitive courses, 40 and above. Generally, you aren't going to see many SOTA students in NUS (small population, plus more than half won't make the first cut), let alone in the highly competitive courses. That said, if you are good enough, you are good enough (p/s: not every JC / A Level student will make it to NUS, let alone medicine / psychology).

I don't think it's getting more popular.

Problem is if you graduate with psychology from FASS, you cannot be registered as a registered psychologist until you have a Master’s or Doctoral degrees in applied psychology, along with meeting many other criteria.

I thought is was getting popular because someone here asked about gaining admission into medicine/psychology. Medicine I can understand, it’s been popular.

Interesting that you see it as a problem, it is an avenue towards getting into your choice specialisation. As upon graduation, one may choose to do their masters in their chosen field. There’s clinical, educational, organisation psychology.. etc.

From IB to local U score needs 38 and above.

In term of poly to go U, is it easier as points are lower ?
As mentioned above lessser percentage compare to A level or poly students to go apply local U, is it cos of this?
IB students are more difficult to get to 38 points or more compare to for poly to get the points to apply U?
