PV will likely ballot SC < 1km as there is only 10 places left.jess1029\" post_id=\"2034210\" time=\"1628788643\" user_id=\"194356:

My best guess is 151 SC < 1km and 1 blur sotong > 1km who couldn't figure out what's happening.
MTS has NEVER NOT balloted for SC < 1km since it moved to Punggol in 2005. Why would any logical person > 1km feel differently about this year and apply to MTS?
 so the chances is really 50%:50% now.
Other school within 1KM are Edgefield, Greendale and Punggol View. Any recommendation for 2CS?
Edgefield looks like it's safe for SC < 1km for Phase 2CS.
Greendale should have places left after Phase 2CS.
Q: Do you want to ballot in Phase 2CS?
If yes, PV. If no, better to choose either Edgefield or Greendale.
Thanks for the view. Seem like that's the only way out.
Just call MTS, 14x are SC<1KM. Chances is really slim. Better get prepare for 2CS registration.
If you choose to ballot at PV and misses out, likelihood is that you will be posted to Greendale as that's the school most likely to have places left after Phase 2CS (and before Phase 3).
-

Err... I thought you would have know before you apply to MTS. It's not like this year was exceptional.

14x are SC<1KM... so there are more than 1 blur person who applied to MTS. I really overestimated our SC and PR :slapshead: -
Do we get the official SMS from MoE only after balloting results are known even though the balloting is for say, above 2km? Mine is within 1km and hence no balloting. However I didn’t get any SMS confirmation…

I am applying for Rivervale (just opp Meetoh) and by day 2 it is 126 applied... I already think 90-95% should be <1km... and i think a most a few more will apply... for some reason, 10 more applied... looking at the reply... i think most probably at least 130 <1km need to ballot...

- not publishing the distance breakdowns
- not providing daily or real-time updates
- wiping out the balloting category from its website immediately after balloting is over in each phase.
- not providing any historical data anywhere
Not every parent comes to KSP to do their research. I know plenty of parents who are simply too busy with life (and looking after kids) to research about schools. They just blur blur register to any school near their home. If it happens to be a popular one then oops. -

If it happens to be a popular one then oops.
I can understand why some schools end up with 500% to 600% over the limit, cos everyone wants to apply for the one < 1km. In some cases, it actually makes sense (e.g. Yishun, Punggol, Sengkang) cos the remaining options aren't really that different from the other 'safe' Phase 2C choices. However, applying to a popular school that's 1-2km is really more than just being 'blur-blur' lor.
MOE has emphasised the 'distance priority' in almost all their publications and on almost all pages of their P1 registration website. Even without the distance breakdown, once you see the number of applicants more than double the number of vacancy on Day 1 or Day 2, alarm bells should be ringing LOUD LOUD. This isn't any school that has caught people by surprise, e.g. KCS this year, RGPS last year. Real-time update or distance breakdown is not going to help the most stubborn or the most ignorant or the too busy with life type. -

At least 130 out of 136 applicants being < 1km is a reasonable assumption.

As per my previous post, Sengkang is one of those places where it makes sense to try for a popular school <1km, come what may. North Spring and Seng Kang (both likely to be within 1km) would have more than enough places to take care of the Rivervale excess. The other alternative is Compassvale, but it isn't really that significantly different from North Spring or Seng Kang, so it wouldn't matter to most Rivervale applicants if they miss out. -

Is SMPS using temp address for measuring distance or permanent address? I don't recall many housing near the permanent site. And to those who hv chosen SMPS now, be prepared for long traffic jam along the single lane road to the sch every morning, it could take 30min on that stretch of road alone.

Kheng Cheng School
127 for 94
Ballot for SC < 1km
That’s definitely the first wow from me. Quite a reversal of fortune. I think the development of Toa Payoh West was being overlooked
110 for 91
BUT ballot for SC > 2km
Quite a turnaround considering:
2020 was 98 for 97, ballot for PR > 2km
2019 was 82 for 108
2018 was 99 for 90, ballot for PR > 2km
Only 1 data point but could it be pointing to SC taking a closer look at SMPS now that it's shift to the renovated and upgraded campus at Wilkie Road is confirmed for Jan 2024?
I do believe next year and 2023 should see keener competition among SC as SMPS is probably one of the few schools (with affiliation to a good secondary school) that's easier to get into for SC. Plus, everyone loves new and shiny things. -

There aren't many high density housing near the perm site, hence, it will be difficult for SMPS to see balloting within 1km, unless their alumni or church affiliated applicants come in big numbers. 1-2km is possible albeit challenging. There needs to be sufficient interest but the Newton / Novena / Farrer Park people have a lot of bright, shiny options to choose from.
