Some possible explanations:

Telok Kurau and Townsville 'improvement' are due to merger with Eunos and Guangyang respectively (hence, Phase 1 will include siblings of students from both merged schools). In addition, both schools have reduced the overall number of places available (240 to 220 and 210 to 190) despite the merger. Interestingly, the other school set to merge in 2022, Farrer Park (not shown on the table), do not exhibit similar behaviour. Farrer Park has also increased their overall places available (from 180 to 220).

Angsana Primary will be relocating to a new campus by June 2022. What did we say about Singaporeans liking new, shiny thing?

Valour is a new school, as well as a MK school. Phase 1 numbers have yet to stabilise and MK Phase 2A are appearing for the first time.

Northoaks, Kranji and Si Ling are schools with reduced overall places (down by 30 each).

Naval Base is quite a turnaround! From having seats in Phase 2CS to balloting for SC < 1km within 1 year. However, it's probably not that surprising. Considering the number of new housing development along Yishun Ave 1, it's just a matter of time. Can draw certain parallels with Kheng Cheng (and housing at Toa Payoh Crest) that were discussed a couple of posts earlier (except that Kheng Cheng usually ballots in Phase 2C in one form or another).

Rivervale is one of those schools that has balloted since 2006 (that's as far as the KSP database goes). At least 130 out of 136 applicants being < 1km is a reasonable assumption.

As per my previous post, Sengkang is one of those places where it makes sense to try for a popular school <1km, come what may. North Spring and Seng Kang (both likely to be within 1km) would have more than enough places to take care of the Rivervale excess. The other alternative is Compassvale, but it isn't really that significantly different from North Spring or Seng Kang, so it wouldn't matter to most Rivervale applicants if they miss out.[/quote]This year is quite a funny year, i was considering Compassvale too and for last year, it has less application but some how last year (if i am not wrong) it has ballot <1km but this year there are more but the balloting is 1-2km... I agree with you that we do have good backup option around the area.
