Hi, anyone can share the median GPA for hcl for Sec 2 for last cohort? Is it usually lower than the usual GPA for the other subjects?

Side note, for 2020 A level batch, seems like the % of 3H2 distinctions and above for RGS girls is lower than the % for RI as a whole cohort. So i guess it means RGS girls donโ€™t perform as well as the general cohort in RI when it come A level. I have also heard from some tutors that among the IP schools, RGS syllabus (at least for lower Sec) is one of the least advanced. Personally I feel so too, when I compare the scope (esp for maths) covered in NYGH and RGS. Of course, it does not mean RGS papers are easier ( advanced scope and difficulty of paper are 2 different things in my view).

saw a number of RGS students attending

            Busybee / Wang laoshi

for HCL group tuition (Secondary). A handful also attend Jiang laoshi, at Fu lou shou complex

            On the other hand,
some RGS students' parents do hire private HCL tutor,
go to their house teach their girls, because they prefer more personal , customized attention,
            learn more effectively.

            The question is,
can your RGS daughter learn efficiently, for
(paper 1 zuowen and paper 2 li jie wen da), in a group tuition environment setting ?

            Suppose
your daughter have tried out these tuition centre(s) before, but still showed no improvement after attending two Term(s), means your daughter doesn't learn well, time to hire a personal Chinese tutor instead.

Got any improvement, or not ?
Within 2 Term after attending a tuition centre, one can tell. One Term not enough, can't tell.

Wang lao shi (Secondary ) :
Maximum, 15 students allowed, inside a class. Note not 10, but 15 max. That's a lot, isn't it ? Like that, how to have personal attention ?

Any evidence of RGS girls, attending Wang laoshi Chinese tuition centre ?

            Yes.
            You know,
when u enter, walk into any Wang laoshi centre, close to the entrance at the main door,

            on the notice board,
you can see a list of names of those O-level ( HCL exam ) RGS students, together with names from other Secondary school students as well,
who have scored Distinction (A1 / A2), in their O-level (HCL), at

last year 2020 and past year 2019.

            However,
            the reverse is also true.

If there are any RGS students who have ever attended these tuition centre before,
            but

scored B3 and below to D7 in their O-level (Higher Chinese), you also won't know who they are, since their names are never posted onto the notice board.

            Why ?

            Because

            Wang laoshi practice is -

post only those students' names who have scored Distinction (either A1 or A2 only), at their Higher Chinese O-level National exam

            ============================

Who is our RGS Chinese HOD, now ?

Inside RGS staff Directory listing, you can find HOD (Chinese).

            https://www.rgs.edu.sg/about-us/our-people/staff-directory

current 2021 Year 4 RGS (IP) students can go and find out from her -

            for the most recent past 3 years (2018, 2019, 2020) :-

what was the Percentage of our RGS students having scored Distinction (A1 / A2), in O-level HCL, per past year ?

            And

What's the \"Average\" HCL (O-level) grade achieved, amongst each cohort ?

            is it grade B ?

go back to past 3 most recent years, will do

hcl is very difficult to score and yes, its usually lower than GPA for other subjects. most girls' GPA tend to be pulled down by hcl, with very few exceptions, so don't worry too much.

DD1 in RI Y5 now. She does think that RI syllabus is more advanced than RGS so there is some kind of a gap for them to catch up. Its also true that RI boys seemed to perform better than the girls in A level for the past year(s)...

My gal is already attending Wang Laoshi but we find their teaching focus on O level format only and not RGS format. If anyone knows of any centre that do IP Chinese, do recommend. Thx again.

                    In what way,

                    Is RGS Chinese format
                    different from
O-level National exam HCL format ?

                    Different in
                    Paper 1 zuo wen
                    or in
                    Paper 2 components ?

                    Can give example(s) ?

Is your daughter currently in Year (2 or 3 or 4 ) IP ?

Think at the end or Yr 4, the girls will take the HCL O level format. But right now in Yr 1, things like oral are different. Different kind of compre questions too. So I am unsure should we just stick to Wang since at the end, O level matters most, or to look for something more align with what the school is teaching right now.
