What do you expect when there are recalcitrant uncles and aunties gathering and line-dancing at Chinatown Complex and nearby all the time? From 2020 till 2021, still cannot obey the rules. With the Mid-Autumn Festival light-up, more pp will go to Chinatown.

Policy makers no fault? We have had hawker centre clusters (few times!) before but keep repeating as the systemic causes were not identified and rectified. The old folks are the PG and MG whose votes matter a lot.

I think a lot of them need to take responsibility for their own safety. The authorities can only do so much - they can't watch every one of them and remind them to wear their masks properly (the main problem, I believe), or crowd near other people, or talk to people while unmasked. If they close hawker centres and markets to the elderly, there will be even more hardship to the low-income elderly. The safest way to stop transmission to the elderly is to ban them from leaving their homes, and limit the no. of visitors very strictly (i.e. circuit breaker, but only for the elderly). But no-one wants that.

Better find an effective way to engage them to do the right thing while eliminating the systemic causes otherwise everyone will suffer the economic consequences.

But no-one wants that.[/quote]Yes, here lies the conundrum of democratic system. Hongkong and China have proven that authoritarian measures and lockdown do work, but they don't have to worry about losing citizens' votes. Taiwan is kind of exception, few of her citizens are going to vote for pro-china KMT in current political climate, so basically Vegetable English has free pass to implement whatever measures she want.

Implementing harsh measures at this point will have dire political ramifications. The PG and MG people making up a significant voter base sure would be super unhappy. Youngsters in their 20s are not exactly loyal fans of current government because their careers and education are directly affected by the pandemic, further measures might just tip the balance. That's why even WP is not saying anything regarding current measures, there simply isn't any more viable control measures. They suggest lockdowns or 2HA also sure will cause a sizable amount of their own voters to be unhappy with them.

Unless MOH is going to approve a vaccine for children here anytime very soon, this is called 废话.

If the majority are diehard PAP supporters, then they should try to be understanding and cooperative, as they have unvaccinated grandkids too, no?

If we must placate the PG and MG voters because they will be angry if they cannot dine-out at food centres and go to wet markets, then be prepared for 1,000 cases and a higher death toll in the coming fortnight.

Frankly, there is no need to worry abt the PG and MG at this point, as our GE just ended.
