Flashcards: Helpful or not?
-
No.
-
I bought the Glenn domain cards and practised on my toddlers back then. I did it more regularly with my firstborn but didn’t had time for 2nd/3rd. I found out that in terms of intelligence and mathematical/scientific skills, my 2nd/3rd are more advanced so actually I would say the cards did not help much in my case.

Thank you so much for your replies. Do you have other alternatives that you can suggest to me?

Child development in the early years is best done by regular interactions with a caring adult. For a young child, everything is \"new\", so just going through the normal day provides lots of good content. Talk to your child and engage him in daily activities - brushing teeth, cooking and eating, going shopping, visiting the park or playground, folding clothes, mopping the floor... Focus on developing communication, understanding, spoken vocabulary, physical skills, social skills etc. Read to your child a lot, preferably from physical books. There is no need to worry about \"learning to read\" till the child is at least 4 years old.

Personally, the idea of flashcards was so boring to me that I never bothered to use them as they were intended. Those that we received as gifts, I allowed my kids to just play with. One child learned to read before 4 yrs without being taught (not because of flashcards, but through being read to a lot), and the other was taught at 5 yrs using a variety of methods. In the end, the later reader has been the stronger student. Both are adults now. -

I totally agree to that. Having quality with your child is the best teacher in his/her young age. And we really need to treasure those moments because kids grow so fast. I am happy and sad about that fact. Thank you so much for your reply.

I find that it works for Chinese. Maybe pictorial more effective. U can also play matching cards, to train memory.
Are flashcards really helpful to kids? Does it help enhance the memory of a child in the long run? -
Oh, and in P1/2 syllabus they use 字宝宝 flash cards.
