If you failed to get in at Phase 2A, I think your chances, including appealing, is as good as zero (unless you are exco of the alumni or has reason to believe that you have good standing in the school to strengthen your case). Likelihood priority for appeal will go to those who are within 1km before it trickles to 1-2km.
Hi need help here.
Going to register my son in 2022. We are alumni of Pei Hwa and living within 1-2km. However due to the new changes implemented today it’s high chance that we need to ballot next year in 2A even we are in 1-2km. So asking if I fail to secure a lot in 2A and 2c cos we are not within 1km how are the chances of appealing to the school? Thanks -
With the latest https://www.moe.gov.sg/news/press-releases/20210909-changes-to-the-primary-one-registration-framework-to-ensure-our-schools-remain-open-to-all announcement wef 2022 registration, you may like to know the following:
Had the new changes applied to the 2021 registration:
2A would have another 16 schools joined the ballot:
Yu Neng Primary School
Chongzheng Primary School
Fairfield Methodist School
Red Swastika School
Henry Park Primary School
Riverside Primary School
Westwood Primary School
Radin Mas Primary School
Waterway Primary School
West Spring Primary School
Anglo-Chinese School (Primary)
Princess Elizabeth Primary School
Methodist Girls’ School
Northland Primary School
Pasir Ris Primary School
Springdale Primary School
This is on top of those who went to balloting in 2A2 (12) and 2A1 (6). Odds for the balloting will naturally be worse off.
For 2C: a quick look at those vacancies <40, these are the ones:
South View Primary School
St. Hilda’s Primary School
Rulang Primary School
Ai Tong School
CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School
Nanyang Primary School
Nan Hua Primary School
Holy Innocents’ Primary School
Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School
Catholic High School
Pei Chun Public School
Rosyth School
Gongshang Primary School
Tao Nan School
Henry Park Primary School
Fairfield Methodist School
Red Swastika School
Anglo-Chinese School (Primary)
Methodist Girls’ School
Northland Primary School
Horizon Primary School
Frontier Primary School
Temasek Primary School
Chongzheng Primary School
Singapore Chinese Girls’ School
Chongfu School
Yu Neng Primary School
Pasir Ris Primary School
Anglo-Chinese School (Junior)
Punggol Green Primary School
Radin Mas Primary School
One thing is common for the above 2C schools: All required balloting within 1km for SC. So adding the reserved spots would probably increase the odds, but not necessarily shift the balloting zone from within 1km to wider zone.
I have not factored in the MK effect (upcoming ones) to the above, but we can reasonably expect some fight zones in 2A since there would be more applicants in both 2A1 and 2A2 (previously unable to apply as fully taken in 2A1) as well as new eligible ones under the upcoming MK coupled with the reduced vacancies.
The first thing parents should check: look at the onemap distance, some may be \"shifted\" closer (or further) in term of zone or boundaries as a result of how they calculate it now.
It's a good time to relook at your plan, strategies or approach. -

I think people need to moderate their expectations in what the new changes can achieve. The policy is putting on a nice lipstick on the pig, but the pig is still the pig.

While a handful of schools will now have 40 seats instead of 20 to 30+ seats, the odds of getting into those schools have only *slightly* improve. Enlarging the definition 1km on the other hand, increases the 1km catchment and may negates any improvements that the 20 seats bring.
Personally, I’m expecting the situation for most schools to get worst, not better, ie I expect the number of schools with 40 seats left for Phase 2C to rise. -

I see the wealth effect playing a larger role for popular schools. If you are alumni, you had better get yourself within 1km if you have the means, unlike now. As alumni ‘dilution’ will occur, this opens the door to new money who can afford the move at 2C.

Thanks all for the replies but even if we want to re-plan or to move closer to the sch think it’s too late since it’s already Sep of 2021. If we had known of this we would have moved within 1km to secure the slot from 1-2km.

It’s not too late. You still have until June 2022 to move house if u want/can.

Oh I see. Thanks!

whats the average price of a 2bedroom and 3bedroom around these branded schools?
not everyone can afford the rent or mortgage. $$$4K/month for the smallest unit, not inclusive of your bills, car, groceries, food, leisure, tax, savings.... -
hi, i dont quite understand the policy change. i am one of the alum in "For 2C: a quick look at those vacancies <40, these are the ones" list. does it mean i have to ballot even if i am within 1km of the sch? based on last year stats it seems 2a1 is no ballot. not sure about 2a2. assume if we need to go into balloting, would balloting start for those outside of 2km first?

Now that Phase 2A is combining both 2A1 and 2A2, you will need to see the combined number of alumni vs available vacancy. Hence, if the school had balloted in either phases, the likelihood of balloting using the new system is high.

In case where there is a need to ballot, it will only start with > 2km, followed by 1-2km and lastly < 1km.
