2021 PSLE Discussions and Strategies (Children born in 2009)
-
Looks like overblown accounts of experiences.
My child has finished paper 1 in 35 minutes and paper 2 in 60 minutes. From the discussion and other questions she shared with me the paper is not really tough not even of the same standard as that of 2020 paper. So far I could only spot a single mistake in more than 16 problems she shared with me. Onto AL1 hopefully.
On the concerns of algebra - my child uses more algebra than models and we have never been penalized and we were never warned of her usage either. I also had talked with the teachers who marked PSLE papers and none of them expressed any concern. The only thing they look for is whether the answer is derived in a FLUKE. Otherwise children do get rewarded for the steps- algebra or other method. -

.....[/quote]My daughter’s classmates had all kinds 5:5,5:3,5:4,5:6,5:7 but all agree the first one is 5 units. Actually, it depends on how you draw because same perimeter does not equal same area, there are other ways to draw which makes it possible to have more than 1 ans
1:1 is the correct ans. My son and classmates all got 1:1soul_starry\" post_id=\"2040252\" time=\"1633134005\" user_id=\"117520:

Thanks for sharing. Will tell her tomorrow. From what she shared earlier one of her classmates got 5:6, others 10:9, 5:8. She and one other got 1:1 but was so many varied answers.

there might many ways to draw the triangle. They might still have the same perimeter but different area so it might depend on the triangle drawn
Thanks for sharing.khd\" post_id=\"2040267\" time=\"1633141076\" user_id=\"194025:
For the volume one, the ans is 7 and for the ratio of parallelogram to the triangle is 1:1 as both of the areas are 5cm2. If you get different ans , most likely draw triangle wrongly in the first place
My son's answer is 6, and ratio is 2 : 3. -

There will definitely be students who think that paper is easy or finish paper way before the time is up. It all depends on whether they have been exposed to similar qn.
I think some students faced problem doing the coin question and ended up not having enough time to think about the last two qn on circle and rate.
What’s impt now is that our children continue to stay motivated for the next few papers. -
Well tell your children don’t worry, they are not the only ones who are having trouble with the questions, the cut off points will vary according to the performance of the whole cohort so they are not lagging behind. We are all in the same boat, they can’t possible only take in those with a psle score of AL6 and less if only a few people meet the requirements. Stay strong! Don’t worry, be happy, you abilities are there, doesn’t matter how hard the paper is, your position in the cohort doesn’t really drop!Jiayou!

I think we parents have to be careful to be balanced, not dismissing all the sentiments from those that cried or felt it was tough, they already feel crappy and I don’t think telling them "the paper okay what!", Is going to make them feel any better. We have to hear them out and not dismiss their feelings at the same time to encourage them.

Acknowledging their feelings and emotions is very important, and in fact I can see the change in my girl since she came home from school yesterday. After a big hug, and assurance she is back to being her chirpy self. I let her download what’s app to give and get support and encouragement from her classmates, and she is not as discouraged now.
She was knocked away after yesterdays paper coz maths was her strong subject that she is Hoping to help her get into a school nearby that she is aiming for. -
Keep focused and carry on. What’s important is the children are halfway through and learn resilience and put mind over matter. My elder realised that he got most of the “difficult” questions in his PSLE math wrong but he still ended up with A star so it isn’t over until you get the results in hand … remember that working is also awarded marks !
A paper has to be set in a way so it can sieve the top scorers out.
