Just before taking our booster shot, was chit-chatting with MIL & dawn on me one possibility esp for those who took Pfizer wld hv efficacy worn out by now, hence probably easier to catch the Delta variant. Maybe explains why the numbers shot up besides the more transmissible Delta. That’s one of the reason for my choice to switch for Moderna booster.

The difference between Pfizer and Moderna effectiveness may be due to a combination of two factors. Namely dosage and dose interval. For dosage, pfizer recommends a dosage of 30mg per dose for two doses while Moderna recommends 100mg per dose for two doses. Hence there are significantly more dose-response expected for people vaccinated with two doses of Moderna (i.e. 100+100mg Moderna versus 30+30mg Pfizer). For dose interval, Pfizer is 3 weeks apart while Moderna is 4 weeks There is a UK study that shows the sweet spot for Pfizer dose interval is 8 weeks apart in order to get more antibodies. Hence the slightly longer interval may have serve Moderna well, vis-a-vis Pfizer.

On the question of should you switch. My view is no. The reason is firstly, there is no scientific study that shows that mixing vaccine produces good results. Beside that, Moderna recommended dosage for boaster is only 50mg, half the volume of it's initial two doses and that recommendation is based on Moderna's 2-doses recipient. Whether a half-dosage is adequate for a 2-doses Pfizer vaccine recipient is a question mark.

So far some countries have mixed AZ with Sinovac. China tried Pfizer as boosters. So far all so good.


DH is 50+ this year, plan to go for Moderna as his booster as Moderna antibodies have been found to last longer. As for heart inflammation side-effects, he is not so worried as it affects mostly young males.

Although 50mg, must also see the concentration inside right? Different companies have different formulae. If I inject 100mg or 200mg (of H2O), do you think it works?

Many people actually mistaken how our body immune system works and assumed that just because our antibodies level have come down, means we are \"less effectively or not protected\". This is not true, our body's immune system have memory B and T cells that will ramp up their responses if the same foreign invader is encountered again. Antibody level does not give a complete picture of the level of protection. In any case, antibodies level in our body ultimately have to reduce over time. You cannot have an immune system that is always in top alert level over extended period of time.

That said, some people do have weakened immune system due to pre-existing conditions or old age. For these people, a sad but factual outcome is as and when they got infected, they have much lower probability to survive due to inability of their weakened immune system provide adequate responses against foreign invading virus.

For me, I will not be going for a boaster until science shows me data that justify the need for it. As of now, US FDA only recommend boaster for people with immuno-compromised conditions or 65 years and above. Hence unless you fall under either of these categories, there is really no data indicating you need that boaster shot.

There are many other solutions besides stepping out.

Another possibility. Eg the Stay Home had to order food to settle their meals issue. They could have left the proper bagged rubbish outside and asked the rider to help throw on his / her way out. Then offer a nice tip for their troubles. Most riders would be willing to help if explain nicely.

Saw this on Telegram. Now they say can step out to throw rubbish if there's no one outside.

My 6 mths would be end of the year/early next year. As of now, I don’t think I will go for booster unless then the situation is really serious. If go J think I will go for milder one unless proven really cannot make it.


So for those Sinovac, go Pfizer booster ok? Zeit shares in China looks ok…other countries got such study or not?

Yes, if you took Sinovac, you could take Pfizer as your booster. The HK civil servants who took Sinovac to show patriotism later went for BNT boosters.

I won't take any booster until post-CNY next year. But if they suddenly open up more VTLs of my choice, I might bolster my immune system with a 3rd jab before I fly.
