To those of you say today Science paper, my DS said it was NOT easy ... only maybe MCQ but not rest of paper- so please stop comparing : to each kid their own potential

We need to be sensitive to all kids of different ability
My DS also thinks that the MCQ is easy but not the OEQ.

every effort the kid puts in , should be celebrated. whether the paper is a difficult or easy paper , we are not the ones sitting for this exam .

someone say “ undeserved ones also AL1” , i am just glad i am not sending my gal to most elite school in school n i admit she might not get in , but the elitist mentality is unhealthy .

              Difficult complain, Easy also complain.

Whether can get into top school depends on your kids calibre. You have to assess yr kids capability and put them in suitable schools.

Not die die must go RI/ NYGH, HCI etc.
              Q :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
I wanted to say the same too.
Everything also can complain. Laugh die me.

totally agree! looking at past few days comments, looking at so many parents complaining at MOE fb ,...... im wondering, if all kids scoring AL1 for all subjects, is this what we want? everyone just have to use pandemic as excuses and all kids get a chance to try RI, NYG, HC..........

Ha... ironic. Pitchforks were out in force just a couple of days ago.
MOE was the big bad guy and CCS was being called out left, right, centre for being evil, uncaring, driving kids to suicide.

Whichever policy is in place, they can’t please everyone.
Those at the top will want the papers to be hard to sieve out the potential competitors. Wun-wun-jia-bee-hoon go into their dream top schools.
Those who are on the borderline will want the papers to be easier so they have a chance to squeeze into the said top schools.
Those who are below that will want the papers to be super easy so that it is fair and everyone has a chance – even balloting also shiok.
And some just want to get by so that their kids can manage the stress and are not interested in the competition in which they are the collateral damage.

At the end of the day, RI only has X number of places. Whether it is the T-score or AL band or some future magic formula, they can only accept X students so there needs to be a cut-off somewhere.
The alternative is rebrand all the schools; either number them Schools #1, #2, …. Or just have one massive RI with branches throughout Singapore la.

For sci mcq, there was a qn on steam bun with liquid filing. What caused the bun to burst when heated ? There were 2 possible options:
                    - liquid filing expanded
                    -air in the bun expanded

The obvious ans seems to be liquid filing expanded but is this a trick qn? Could also be that there was air trapped in the bun and could have caused it? Out if syllabus but air expands more than liquid...

                    What do u think?
                    Tks
The question mentioned liquid filling and this is P6 level science. So my guess will be liquid filling expanded.

Couldn't agree more...unfortunately most parents think top 4 schools only or else may as well go to neighbourhood school....they don't believe in inbetweens

Ya. If those happened to get AL4/5 turns out to be more of a fluke, seriously still must consider kids overall ability....else may lose self-esteem in big 4.[/quote]Ok, here's the deal in my view since I have one kid doing O levels and another, IP. I am proud of both.

                      (a) If the kid tries for the big 4, he/ she will face a mix of students. It's true that some of them are really good, but it's also true that some of them are really lousy by studies/ academic standards.
If the kid tries for O levels or another IP, the same thing happens, some really good and some really lousy.
                      It's not that straightforward.
If what you are concerned is the proportion of the students in the \"really good\" category in that cohort, this is at best confined to studies/ academic matters.

                      (b) If the line of thought is only in terms of studies/ academic work, it may not spill into other aspects. Being holistic in development is a key aspect. E.g. independence developments of a kid, school and kid match, emotional/ mental well-being, even in the case where you may not want to rate the \"distance from home\" factor high enough.

In short, the intimate understanding from parents about a kid goes a long way to bringing out the best in him/ her. That 'best' is what parents are actually looking for.

Air expand. Air expand more than liquid plus liquid evaporated when heated.
