I heard Rulang had 2 classes >250. I believe school close to home is an advantage, don't need to wake up early and convenient if she had CCA. Even in sec school selection, it is a decision between RGS or NYGH. I told her to select the one nearest to home also. We did not attend any school briefing or e-tour of the schools before.

Anyway, she was also influenced by her primary school mates in her selection choice. So she chose basically all the sec schools along bukit timah road because it is close to home.

I believe school close to home is an advantage, don't need to wake up early and convenient if she had CCA. Even in sec school selection, it is a decision between RGS or NYGH. I told her to select the one nearest to home also. We did not attend any school briefing or e-tour of the schools before.

Sometimes there are surprises. My child was also from neighbourhood primary school walking distance to our house. The main thing is she sleeps enough and gets home early enough. Tuition only once a week for the weakest subject. And I think her PSLE results surprised all of us, 270+. The funny thing is, in her class, she wasn't even the top scorer. The top 2 classes had 280+.

Best thing is, good value given the $$ we spent - not too much.

In the end, picked the one closer to home.[/quote]Good to see motivated children doing so well in their exams, but i must say, based on my DD's experience, it's quite different in a normal neighbourhood school compared to what is described here. My DD didn't even come close to 260 two years ago and already in top ten of her school. So no stress in a way becos her school's expectations were quite moderate anyway. Not sure how things will unfold in this new system. Hope everyone eventually make peace with the AL score that they get, and if not satisfied, work harder in sec school! :xedfingers:

I wonder A* in T-score system is equal to AL1. As I feel that it is not easy to get 90 and above in languages. Last time I heard some got 4A*, does that mean all 4 subjects raw scores are 90 and above? With the new AL system, I think only a very good one can get AL1 in languages, as getting AL2 already not easy. If languages can not get AL1, then many will end up with AL6 in total. I’m not aiming for top school. Just thinking that getting AL5 is not easy.

Under T score, A* is not the raw marks. Above 91 means the ranking in the whole cohort is top 9%.

Year after year, the school has produced many students (relative to other schools) to both HCI and NYGS.

Well, a lot of people like to post unverified info or talk big here. Personally, I have not come across a lot of 270++ in any school. Yes, there will be probably 3 or 4 kids getting 270++ in any school, be in in a popular or neighbourhood school. There will be a bit more scoring 260++, probably less than 20. But definitely not as many as some have claimed it to be.
