The 50s dying is like not 'rare' anymore looks like and that's worrying me. 50s, in Singapore can have that many health conditions mah? Maybe can provide more info on the health issues..

And there is group 19-39 needing O2 and in icu. Very young leh. Though number is very small, again what kind of conditions that can land them there.. and we talking abt 3k cases (excl the supposedly mild Home Recovery group) now.

What worries me is history repeating itself. After the \"Spanish\" flu in 1918-19, came the 2nd world war in 1939-1945. While some may consider that old people dying is a \"good thing\" as it refreshes the population and keeps it \"young\", we forget that old people actually possesses much wisdom about history, having lived through it themselves.

We don't know what will happen in the future, but the world population was 2.3B in 1940 when world war 2 started, and it has now exploded to 7.4B (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estimates_of_historical_world_population). It would appear that the Internet affords close communication between people so this allows us to \"tahan\" each other, but recent developments in USA shows how easy it is to hoodwink and galvanise people via the Internet so there seems to be 2 major camps opposing each other there. Will it be possible for people to forget the horrors of wars and go at each others' throats? There's no telling what will happen when food runs out and people start starving.

      Sorry to be so moody...

I believe most Singaporeans will NOT think old people dying is \"a good thing\" because we all will grow old. HCW are strike hard to keep all patients no matter their ages to survive.

There are already a few regional wars, people starving, etc in the world at present but whether it will become another world war? No one know.

The important things are how to take care people surrounding us, working hard in our jobs, do our best to stop the spread of Covid 19 in Singapore.........

Chief, I understand where you come from ...I m still at the same camp as you ( if I understand correctly)..lots of things dont understand, find why unable to look at all areas etc etc..but we can't do anything besides following the direction set. Being unhappy asking ourselves too many qns, I can only see 'internal' damage on ourselves and what's more..in this kind of situation, that is what we need to avoid in order to protect ourselves lor.. so I try let go whatever and see the positives that could come out from there and most importantly don't let fear paralyze us lor like what pm says.[/quote]Oh....there are camps in this Forum?? I don't know whether I am at the same camp with you or not? But I always believe we can do lots of thing to make Singapore a better society :rahrah: .

And Singapore has done its best to preserve the lives of the elderly. It's only because of the entire nation's willingness to abide by CB, Phase 1,2, HA and whatever, and high vaccination rates, that has kept our death toll from Covid as low as it has been. Keeping it to zero would have been nice, but at what cost in other ways? I think we have done well - not perfect, but a lot better than many other countries.

I think that's the intention. It's part of the \"endemic\" plan. We don't announce the no. of deaths from any other disease on a daily basis.

Seriously, their \"endemic plan\" is poorly executed and unless the political intention currently is to get everyone infected, aka holding a \"chickenpox party\". But if that is the case, why not we do away with masks, so that we can bite the bullet and transit faster and hence come to a steady equilibrium in a shorter time.

Personally I have known of one family where the entire family, including a person more than 90 years old who got infected over a course of 5 days because MOH have been very slow to evacuate the first confirmed infected case to the isolation facility despite them having a vulnerable person at home.

The situation is absolutely \"failed to plan, thus planned to fail\".

It is inevitable that everyone will encounter the virus if Singapore is ever to open up to some kind of normal. With high vaccination rates, the no. of those who are infected will be lower than if we didn't have as many vaccinations. Even more important, the no. of those seriously ill will be much lower than if we had fewer vaccinations. However, just having COVID parties will put too much pressure on hospitals, which is why we are being asked to be patient and endure for another few months so the no. of seriously ill in hospital will not spike too high at any one time. But in the end, there will be those who are vulnerable who will still succumb. That's no different from those who will die from other diseases.

Err, what happened to my charts?! Never mind...

Someone suggested doing away with masks. Better not lah. Look at the simulation by epidemiologists. If you remove universal masks, I think we must draft all our secondary school Red Cross/St John's Ambulance teenagers to help liao!

I think the MTF forgot to tell us that Singapore is https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/countries-by-density. :nailbite:

Our 3,700 per day is not the same as 3,700 per day in e.g. Malaysia or South Korea as their population density is lower:

Our Reproductive no is higher than many other countries.

I don't think it's that draconian to ban UV from eating in hawker centres, coffeeshops. It's for their own good... But I think it's weird they can't enter malls...not even to take a shortcut after emerging from underground MRT.

Anyway, it doesn't affect me. It may affect those >12yo teenagers who haven't taken their vaccines. They might not be able to enter enrichment centres located within shopping malls. The <12yo tutees have no issue as they are not eligible yet. 🤷

I suppose the 2-pax shopping / dining rule is also slapped on FV because MTF is anticipating more VTL visitors from 11 countries from 19 Oct entering into our shopping malls, especially when many are structurally connected to 5-star hotels.

Some mums took Pfizer for their 1st and 2nd doses, and Moderna for the booster dose.

May I ask if you can share your reasons, pls?
                        Thank you.
