They do form the biggest group but it is not overwhelmingly a lot. School tries to spread out the nyps girls. If I recall correctly, form teacher said each class not more than 8 from nyps.

The thing is, the girls actually do not find out what pri school each other are from. My DD does not know nor care what pri schools her friends in nygh are from. So as parents, I don't think we should worry that much.

Roughly speaking, 20% of the cohort (~80 out of ~400) is from NYPS. But they don't form cliques if that's what you worry about. My DD's best frens in her class include both NYPS and non-NYPS students. (DD is not from NYPS, btw)

Not quite sure what comments you are referring to. And whether they have any real basis or experience in the school or just spreading hearsay or an outlier comment.

Maybe another way to look at it would be if she will have any regrets if she doesn't get to go to a school she is looking forward to just because of what you guys have heard.

My daughter was from NYPS but most of her friends now are from other schools too. Most of the girls largely mix around with their classes and their CCAs which is comprised of students from many different schools.

Having said that, I also don't want to paint a false rosy picture that it is all rainbows there. Academically, it is not a walk in the park. Standards are high but since you are in this thread, I assume your daughter has been selected via DSA or are confident that the PSLE results will get her there. In which case, as long as she puts in consistent work and does her homework she should be able to cope.

Our of curiousity, do NYGH parents think the academics is tougher at NYGH than HCI? Or comparable? They don’t have common exams until year 4, and only for A Maths I think.

Based on hearsay, HCI standard is higher than nygh for maths and sciences but this has never been verified. Based on the common IM1 or IM2 paper that they both take at year 4 promo, I would say the paper is easier than a typical nygh maths paper.....maybe its to make more being able to progress successfully to HCI since msg has to be 3 or better.

How about in Year 5? Do HCI boys cope as well as NYGH girls?

I only have a small sample size based on my girls feedback. She says the hci boys that she knew are very good in m and s whereas perhaps girls are better at humanities? My girl belongs to the latter where econs/gp are ok for her. Again this is based on her own limited experiences and not sweeping generalisation of the cohort.
