Regarding AMR (Affiliate Minimum Requirement), just wondering:

Has any of the schools told their P6s of their AMR which is NOT the same as the MOE simulated cut off point?

I recall there was some discussion previously, and so far all these schools (correct me if I’m wrong) have declared their Express (O level) stream AMR is as follows (tallies with the indicative COP):

- ACS Barker Road: 22 (non-affiliated 11)
- ACS Independent: 13 (non-affiliated 9)
- Catholic High: 12 (non-affiliated 9M)
- CHIJ TPY: 20 (non-affiliated 10)
- CHIJ St Nicks: 14 (non-affiliated 8M)
- Fairfield: 20 (non-affiliated 11)
- MGS: 17 (non-affiliated
- SCGS: 17 (non-affiliated 9)
- SJI: 12 (non-affiliated 10)

I am rather confused about these indicative AMR. Does it mean that all students that fulfills AL12 for Cat High will get in? Or kids may ballot under AL12 or there is a particular quantity of affiliated students and if fulfilled for a particular popular or illustrious year, the AMR may end up say AL10 or AL9 instead.

The AMR is not indicative. It is the FIXED minimum requirement that affiliates must get, otherwise the affiliated secondary school will NOT accept them. This is a subtle change from the previous years.

In your example, yes all affiliates who score 12 will get into Cat High. There is a cap of 80% for affiliates but Cat High is nowhere near that cap, as many on KSP have confirmed.

I always thought I have to prepare for AL11 minimum, as I am dropping HCL for my boy, hence I thought those with HCL will take priority at AL12.

Is it rather generally a true statement that teachers in independent secondary schools tend to be more experienced and more enthusiastic in teaching as these schools hire each of them on their own? Thoughts are welcome.

Independent secondary schools can hire some of them on their own. The majority are still MOE teachers. Thus, it's relative easier for independent schools to address some shortcomings in the teaching calibre / experience by hiring external teachers on their own.

Enthusiasm is a two-way street. Teachers in independent schools may seem a lot more enthusiastic because they are dealing with a higher calibre of students. Thus, teachers can drive or lead in a lot of the discussion / lesson with a lot more to / fro as well as depth in the discussion / lesson. If you compare teachers in independent schools with the teachers in some of the better government / government-aided schools, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

There are different types of IP schools, some are government-funded, some fully independent. For the latter group, it can range between $300 and $600 per month. For government-funded like NJC, school fee is around $33
